Cynthia (cynthiab) Shelby wrote: "It's a blast Cynthia. And don't worry we'll all be here to support each other. :)"

So, do we start off each reading a #1 book or is there a roll of the dice Friday? Who rolls? Do we each roll, and our team wins when we've all reached the end?

I'm not clear on how this works, really. If we roll once as a team, then who is responsible for that? I understand we can't roll until everyone has completed the week's reading and posted their review.

message 10: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments There will be a roll this Friday to determine the teams spot. The team elects who rolls amongst the team.

It's really simple to play but like so many things it's easier to see vs explaining it lol.
Go take a look at the past games in the archives if you want to. I'll BRB with a link.

message 12: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) You're right. Much easier to see than say.

Where's everyone located? I'm in the US Central time, so if you want me to roll I'll be happy to do it. I'm always up at that hour and later.

I suppose we need a name, too? I bet 'Lucky Sevens' has been used before.

message 13: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katkattrinn) | 760 comments How about "Seven deadly sins"?

message 14: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I asked the people sitting around me if Seven Deadly Sins is a great team name, and they prefer 'Sinners' to 'Sins'. I suppose that makes sense because people are the sinners not the sin. I wouldn't have thought of that!

I like 'Seven Deadly Sinners' a lot, Katherine.

message 15: by Shelby (last edited Mar 18, 2015 08:06PM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments I'm down with that for a team name sounds great. :) And Cynthia if you're down to roll that would be great. The Captain normally rolls and then makes the post to the tracking thread. I can link you to my posts in the past if you want if you're willing to take it on and show you the easiest way to set it up. :)

I'm PST so I'm at the tail end of the time zones, but my plate is pretty full at the moment so trying to organize one more thing might actually kill me. ;)

message 16: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments Do Izzy, Lindy, and Jim know that we've got our team thread? They haven't stopped in yet. That's a good portion of the team to be missing when we kick things off here shortly.

message 17: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) According to the moderator, we should PM them, and if they don't respond tonight then she'll PM them. If they aren't checked in by start time, we roll without them.

I'll PM them, but to be honest it doesn't instill me with confidence if we're already having to chase people down.

message 18: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lol we're on the same page! I'm going through and sending pm's now. Two of your missing players have never played before and may just not be aware that teams are up.

message 19: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 69 comments Good evening to those in time zones behind USA Eastern, good morning to those in USA Eastern and later, and thank you for the e-(fe)mails that the teams are up. Never played before so didn't know they were up. Here!

Jim

message 20: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Great to see you Jim! I've never played before either, but I think it'll be a lot of fun.

I expect to use the alternate list quite a bit or end up reading some JD Robb books.

Cynthia (cynthiab) We need to turn in our team name and captain soon. We only have 10 hours til start time!

message 23: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 375 comments Have the dice been rolled?

message 24: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 982 comments Nope this is just our initial check in so we can decide on Team Names and Captain. First roll is anytime tonight after midnight Central US time.

message 25: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I'm going to throw out some team names and if I don't get some opinions before midnight, I'll use the randomizer to choose one.

I'll roll the dice tonight, and after everyone's checked in we can decide on a Captain. I'm only rolling tonight because I've got a pile of books to read and review and I need to get started. I usually do all my work at night.

Katherine nominated Seven Deadly Sins.
I'm withdrawing 'Lucky Sevens' because 'Lucky Thirteen' has been taken.
I nominate Read It and Weep, because hopefully we'll kick some behind and make all the other teams cry. Figuratively, of course.
My husband likes Seven Samurai.

I'll be back at midnight CST (5 hours from now).

message 26: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 375 comments I prefer Seven Deadly Sins.

message 27: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) It's my favorite, too. I know I should prefer my own suggestion, but I was really just trying to give choices.

message 28: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 375 comments I also like Seven Heavenly Virtues:

message 29: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I once took care of a nun and someone asked her the 7 deadly sins. She couldn't name them all, but she did name the 7 virtues.

I named all 7 sins, but I was only taught the virtues faith, hope, and charity. She asked me if I was Baptist and said we're very sin-focused. Which is true.

You may read #7 in a series or the alternate, author M

When posting your review, please include a link to the book, date finished, a rating, and a review. Your review doesn't have to be fancy. When using an alternate option please link the correct edition of your book.

Remember, all of our reviews must be posted before we can roll for the next week. Please have your reviews posted by Thursday evening.

Good luck choosing a book!

Jim Townsend | 69 comments Good morning,

Warning: I am a sports fan, so the upcoming is from a jock mentality.

Read It and Weep clinched the baseball Division Series in four of a best-of-five series of games; but as in Davis Cup (men) or Federation Cup (women) tennis, all the matches must be played. Since these games are designated SS or SSS, I thought my suggestion of a team name fit.

Can the book be of any genre? Or must it be fiction? I don't think I have a book that is #7 in a series, but I do have The World Is My Home, a memoir by author James A. Michener. Is this acceptable? Thank you.

Jim

message 34: by Cynthia (last edited Mar 20, 2015 03:19AM) (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Please give this a click.

Name Team 7 Poll

James, there's nothing in the rules that says it must be fiction. Thankfully all genres!

Players don't have to choose their books or tell us about them before posting the review. I like looking at the list and anticipating the reviews. I'm always looking a good book recommendation.

message 35: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Jim, your Michener memoir looks so good that I had to find out if my library has it. Luckily it does! I'm trying to read at least one nonfiction book/month. I'll have to add this one to my list!

message 40: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) If I'm the roller, I'll be rolling shortly after midnight CST on Thursdays. (I suppose that's technically Friday, but it's Thursday night to me).

It would be nice if the reviews were posted by early Thursday evening, as they have to be consolidated into one post, then linked in the spot thread.

The sooner the better, so the person rolling won't have so much to do at once.

Review: See my full review here

A young teenaged girl disappears from a rural Ozark community and is hardly missed until her body turns up in pieces, lodged in the branches of a fallen tree on the river bank across from Henbane's local store. The murdered girl was Lucy's neighbor, and her disappearance a year earlier struck a chord with the young girl whose own mother disappeared 15 years ago just as mysteriously.

Are these disappearances as connected as the ties that bind the people of Henbane? Lucy thinks so, and her exploration takes her on a dangerous journey. She'll find out what happened to them both, and discover in the process that nothing is as it seems.

Review:
Love the Fool's Gold, CA series and this is the first book . It is about Josh
Golden, womanizer and professional cycler and Charity Jones the city planner
hired to bring men into town. It is very predictable in that they will fall in love and marry but are well developed characters. Mallery kept pushing his won-
derful body over and over again. The meeting between the girls in town was much mroe interesting. It was an ok book, nothing special.

Review: This book was okay. But I think that Nalini Singh could do better.
So the book is about A Psy girl, who doesn't have memory, and she was left to leader of the Forgotten, Devraj Santos. After some time she stars to remember some fragments of her life and what happened to her, that her mind was tortured by Ming LeBon. The more Katya remembers, the more intense feelings are between her and Dev...

message 49: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I read the first one and loved it, the second one wasn't as good, and I DNF the third one.

Nalini Singh can write, and is very creative. I wish she would put out less books of greater quality. She definitely has it in her.

Saviours of Oestend - Marie Sexton
Saviours of Oestend (Oestend, #2) by Marie Sexton

Read: 3/25

Rating: ★★★★

While I didn't like this story as much as I did the first it was still very enjoyable. I love the world created here and the dark elements that make it unique. This story spins more on the relationships developing though than on the strange otherworldliness of life on these prairies. The strange events keep happening, but there less integral to what's going on between the characters.

This is really an interesting two part love story. You have Dante struggling with the pain of knowing the man he thinks he loves is in love with another and having banished himself to another ranch to try to rebuild. His pain unendurable coupled by the death of his brother at the hands of the wraiths. But with the entrance of Cami in his life all of the bitter anger and self hatred he felt begins to melt away and he becomes a redeemable character, not the man I loathed in the first book. Having, as always, generally ignored the blurb and side not genres I didn't realize where this story was headed at first. The reveal here is really well done and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I really enjoyed Cami's character in this and really felt for her and all she's gone through in her life. I liked her and Dante as a couple, together they were balanced and brought out the best in each other.

The other part of this love story is of course Francis and Simon...here I have a few more problems. While I did get that Simon does care about Francis the idea that he wasn't fully in love with him, not even really gay for you just horny is what always stood out for me. I didn't like that even in the end, as satisfied with the bounds of their relationship as both men were, I still felt like Francis was selling himself short. I feel like he's taking whatever leavings Simon's willing to give him and I didn't like it. Don't like it for Simon either as I want him to have everything he wants too even if he's baring that for himself. This felt like convenience and a friendship twisted not a true loving bond that is what I want for all the characters I really love. And don't get me wrong I loved both Simon and Francis. I just wanted a different realization for Simon than this story gives him.

The solution to the problem of the wraiths and all the craziness going on around Oestend was always where I saw things going even if it took them all a long time to figure things out. Still it was handled beautifully (view spoiler) and I liked the way they discovered why the BarChi was exempt from the crazy. I loved Deacon's freak out. ;)

All in all this was a well told story and while some elements were not my favorite choices for the characters they still served the story. I enjoyed my reading of this and wish the series continued even as the outstanding scary has been dealt with.
