Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments I added this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... a few hours ago. The book page shows up if I use this link, but I can't add it to the series ( https://www.goodreads.com/series/2032...) because when I click on add book and search the title doesn't show up. Actually, although I can get to the page following thie above link, the book doesn't show up in any search. It doesn't matter if its the search books box on the series edit page, the search books on the top of the website or the add books link on the librarian pages. I doesn't matter if I use the title, series or author.

I am going to need advise from other librarians. Does anybody have any idea what Iam doing wrong.

By the way, I don't know if this has anything to do with the book not showing up, but before adding this book, I also searched using the ASIN that is on the Amazon page. When I created the book entry, I could not use the the ASIN because I got a message that 0CB75JW43 had been deleted. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Is there any way to search for an ASIN that shows deleted editions as well? Is there a way to undo a deletion so that people searching for the kindle on Amazon can find it easily?

Liralen | 8224 comments It can take books a while (usually a few days) to show up in search—both the general GR search and the add-to-series search—without an ISBN or ASIN.

I see in the change log that the ASIN wouldn't save—can you confirm where you got the ASIN? I can't find it on Amazon.

Per Amazon ASIN is B0CB75JW43. You might try to add that. Maybe it will let you, maybe not.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments Thanks for the info. In the past, my additions always showed up right away. I didn't know that the lack of the ASIN would change that. Actually that is the ASIN that I tried to use. I just missed the first B when I di a copy / paste in the changelog notes. I fixed the changelog entry. But is there a way to undo that delete? or do I just add a note to the description area?

Sandra | 31471 comments Reinstated deleted edition.

And added it to the series.

And removed the duplicate edition.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments Thank you.
I will let the original request poster know.
For the future: Is the ability to reinstate a deleted edition a superlibrarian task? Or are the instructions somewhere that I can read?

message 7: by Julie (last edited Jul 06, 2023 01:23AM) (new)

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments I just checked it out and there is a text box from when it was deleted. "This item does not meet our catalog guidelines and can no longer be rated or reviewed." This is actually a brand new book that was just released a couple days ago. Will those restrictions disappear after the system catches up? Or does it still need tweaking?

Scott | 9022 comments Any librarian can change the status of a book record, unless it has been set by staff (in which case there will be a note to let you know.)

The note about the book not being valid should disappear in time. Everything takes a while on Goodreads.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments Deleted editions do not show up in a search unless the member has already shelved an item. Consequently, when a requested addition doesn't show up in the search, I try to add it only to find that it has been deleted. Is there a way for a librarian to know that something is deleted before trying to create an edition with that number? I have run into this situation frequently.

message 10: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9022 comments I don't think so. I run into the same problem trying to add the book.

message 11: by Julie (new)

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 234 comments When I have that happen, and get the message, the edition that I am creating is already set to public. How can I access the deleted edition so that I can restore it? It isn't addressed in the manual. This is happening with books that just came out this week. It seems that a bot is deleting books before they are even published.

Thank you Scott for all your help teaching this newby.

message 12: by Liralen (new)

Liralen | 8224 comments It isn't addressed in the manual because the current problem is relatively new—part of the enormous bot-import mess that the developers have to date chosen not to address. It shouldn't need to be in the manual because it shouldn't be happening, especially not on this scale.

The only way I've had luck finding a deleted edition to restore is to try to create one with the deleted ISBN/ASIN, get an error message, and click the link in the error message, which gets me to the deleted edition.

Scott | 9022 comments Ah, yes, sometimes when they are public they still do not show up. Don't know why.
