Lauren | 2157 comments Hi there. This is about the Three Musketeers series, which is currently a mess. Long story short, because the series was serialized in installments/chapters, later publishers compiling those installments/chapters have compiled them in different ways (for example, some editions of "Louise de La Vallière" contain installments/chapters 93-178, while others contain installments/chapters 141-207: enough overlap to share the same title, but they are not interchangeable for someone wanting to read through the series).

For this reason, please do not combine any records simply because they have the same title.

I have identified three main "versions" of the series (GR staff has confirmed that creating a separate series for each version is required; per GR policy, they should link to one another in the series descriptions).

First series: The d’Artagnan Romances
Already exists here: https://www.goodreads.com/series/5513...

But almost none of it is correct. Assuming this is based on the most popular version of the series by Oxford, it should instead include the following records and only the following records as linked, not just based on the title:

Book 1: The Three Musketeers https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Book 1.5: The Red Sphinx. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Book 2: Twenty Years After https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Book 3: The Vicomte de Bragelonne https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
Book 4: Louise de la Vallière https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
Book 5: The Man in the Iron Mask https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Additionally, the other "versions" of the series need to be added to the series description. Please add something like the following to the top of the series description (with the series pages linked):
Dumas' acclaimed story, original serialized, has been compiled by modern publishers into multiple different series; while they may share some titles, the books themselves often contain different content and cannot always be substituted for one another. Popular series orders include the Oxford version (The d’Artagnan Romances), the Lawrence Ellsworth version (The Musketeers Cycle), and the public domain version (The Three Musketeers).

Second series: Lawrence Ellsworth's Musketeer Cycle Translations Series

A correct series exists for this one, too: https://www.goodreads.com/series/3721...

Please add the same text acknowledging the other series to the beginning of the series description.

This series should also be renamed to "Lawrence Ellsworth's Musketeers Cycle Series" in accordance with how he/his publisher is titling it. (GR won't let me insert a link, but you can Google.)

It just needs the addition of the following:

- Book 8: Shadow of the Bastille (volume four of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne): expected publication 2024, please add this edition
- Book 9: The Man in the Iron Mask (volume five of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne): expected publication 2025, please add this edition. Please do not combine with other editions of The Man in the Iron Mask as the divisions between books may not be the same.

Third series

Finally, create a series based on the popular public domain English translations, which are commonly republished by online publishers like Amazon (suggest titling this one simply "The Three Musketeers":

Book 1: The Three Musketeers https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Book 1.5: The Red Sphinx. Ellsworth seems to be the only English translator. Perhaps this could be labeled Book 1.5 as it is not really part of the main series. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Book 2: Twenty Years After (ASIN B0082RHIEE) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Book 3: The Vicomte de Bragelonne (ASIN B0082XJVVG) (Ch. 1-75 of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Book 4: Ten Years later (ASIN B0082XJJL8) (Ch. 76-140 of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Book 4: Louise de la Vallière (ASIN B0083Z4PTQ) (Ch. 141-207 of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Book 5: The Man in the Iron Mask (ASIN B07QNJBYJ4) (Ch. 208-267 of Le Vicomte de Bragelonne) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... (Note that this covers the same content as Penguin's The Man in the Iron Mask)

Again, please add the same text acknowledging the other series to the beginning of the series description.

Thank you!

Edit: There is also another existing series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/2159...

It seems like just a random, incomplete collection of editions in various languages and should probably just be deleted.

Danny Mac (dannymacauthor) | 9 comments I am trying to add a book to The Flying People Series. It tells me it is deleted.

Title: Death to the Devil's Dragon

Author: Danny Mac

Asin: B0CBGG7BQC

Description: Dannie, Rod, and their old mentor—whom they called affectionately call “Dad"—traverse more than half a year battling the devil’s minions only to face the ultimate fight with an ancient creature not seen in over a thousand years. An immortal dragon so fierce that the mere mention of its name terrified those who encountered it. Will God provide his three chosen fighters with enough power to take down a monster controlled by the devil himself or will this battle prove to be too much?

Stories of dragons have inherited the Earth since the earliest human writings. Every region of the world carries myths and folklore of scaled beasts tormenting its populations, and even the Holy Bible speaks of a red dragon with seven crowned heads. Learned people of science denied the existence of dragons because they found no physical evidence for them in our world. However, after observing that no dragons left any remnants behind, they never considered the possibility that perhaps the beast was not of this world. Their physical presence was an illusion of reality to strike fear into the hearts of God’s people.

You should post a standalone thread rather than commenting here.

You need to create your own thread.

Bob | 16 comments Lauren,

I've been doing some work on these books, and have taken a shot at reorganizing the series, along the lines you suggested.

The D'Artagnan Romances series has been renamed (by somebody else) the "Trilogy des Mousquetaires" series, but I've used the OUP books (which have the 3-volume approach to Vicomte de Bragelonne) to anchor the main elements of the series.

I've used another existing series - "Le vicomte de Bragelonne" as the rubric for linking to editions that have the 4-volume approach.

I'm still in the process of recombining those books that can be identified as belonging to the 3-volume and 4-volume versions of "Le vicomte de Bragelonne," respectively.
