Oh yay! Looking forward to the next one then.

That's not the Rincewind books anyway. I don't remember any depth to the parts of Rincewind's subseries I've read. Just fluffy fun + Luggage.

There's plenty with some pretty sharp social commentary and about the human condition so perhaps it's the type of "meat" that is preferred. They are wrapped in satire that may or may not be everyone's preference. Humor is such a personal thing.

For example, from my review for Going Postal "As with most Discworld novels my favorite part is how Pratchett deftly works in deeper themes into his books while still keeping them funny. This time he plays with the idea of Hope and its opposite, fear, corporate greed, collecting mania, doing the impossible, pokes fun at professional wrestling in the most highly organized bar brawl ever and more. Pratchett was a genius. His creativity is sorely missed."

This is all in a story about a con man (view spoiler). (Not too spoilery since you find that at the beginning but if you like going in blind, don't click.) Book 33. Also Book 1 for Moist von Lipwig's sub series and could be started today without missing anything in books 5-32 ;)

Anyway, there's 41ish books. If the series or a specific subseries isn't doing it for you please don't torture yourself because you feel compelled to be a completionist!

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I feel there is a plethora of social commentary already in the five books we have read, and I have loved every second of it! It is so true that different people just like different things, there are no wrong preferences:)))

Paula (paula7) | 1981 comments I like the humour and how chaotic everything is. And some characters are also fun to follow like Death

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I do enjoy the Death stories so far, and looking forward to the next one...Reaper Man, I think....

I was mostly talking about plotlines that make sense, vs plots that are just semi-random things happening you wouldn't expect, like the 2nd half of Sourcery, when all the stuff just starts happening so fast...

But also agree that humor is subjective... both between people, and even the same person over time / re-reads...

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5115 comments I'm surprised I don't like these more because the type of humor is generally that which I enjoy.. But there are some parts better than others and I've been wanting to read this series for a very long time.. I'd rather read the ones I don't enjoy as much too than not read them lol

Narilka | 5728 comments I finished today. I'm with Emily, liked it less on this reread than the first time. The jokes just weren't hitting right. I enjoyed the last 100 pages more than the first, which is opposite of just about everyone else :)

Felina | 2416 comments Just finished this. It was a bit of a slog because I kept losing interest and picking up other books but I did enjoy it. I really enjoy Pratchett’s writing and the fact that I’m constantly giggling. But, like most of you, the Rincewind stories are my least favorite.

I’m definitely onboard for the more in the series but I am thankful they’re relatively short and can be plopped into a reading schedule easily…says the woman two months behind.
