The Striker's Chance by Rebecca Crowley by Rebecca Crawley
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Finished: 5/10/15

This was a pretty good sports romance. I love when the author throws in some actual on field action instead of just having the character be an athlete, but we never actually see them playing their sport. I really liked Holly and Kepler. Separately they were really interesting and together they were even better. And I liked that Kepler was from South Africa, that added a nice touch to the story. His background was really interesting.

I will definitely keep my eye out for more by Rebecca Crowley.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Finished: 11/05/15
Rated: 4.5 stars
Review: I loved it. I the beginning it was a little boring and depressing but then things picked up and got interesting. I loved how Francesca made new friends and found her own little group and stopped depending on others decisions.
If it werent for all the little comedic breaks, this book would be a lot depressing.
One scene that broke my heart was when Francesca and Luca were in the library and she was repeating to him "Dont cry." Oh man, heartbreaking.
Overall, I really liked the writing and all the characters. The romance wasn't one of the great things about this book but the other characters compansated for that.

I am wavering on this one because I loved the literary references and I liked the writing and the main character AJ, as irascible as he is. My issues though are in the leaps of faith one has to take for this to be at all believable. The child is way too precocious which I can't stand and the end is a bit predictable. So overall enjoyable and entertaining but not perfect.

Read Survivor In Death (In Death, #20) by J.D. Robb
Completed 5/13/15
5 stars

4.5 stars rounded to 5

This is #20 in the series and so far my favorite. This was intense and hearbreaking but well worth the read! Emotionally, Eve had a difficult time with this case as it reminded her when she was a young girl. Putting her own feelings aside, Eve with the help of Peabody, Roarke, and the rest of the crew solved the case. Peabody’s character has really developed and progressed – now she is detective and can easily stand up against Eve. Eve and Peabody definitely make a great team!

Normally, I can guess who the murderer is, but this book kept me guessing. I did know immediately who would end up with Nixie Swisher, the nine year old girl and only survivor of the Swisher murders.

I listened to this one on audible and absolutely love the narrator. Each character is easily recognizable, especially Nixie’s character. I just hope that Susan Eriksen continues with this series as she is as much a part of the crew as Roarke and Eve.

Throughout this whole series, I have not been a big fan of Mark. He's just too much for me and a total jerk most of the time. When he met Crystal though, I started to change the way I looked at him. There was more to him than the overbearing jerk that screwed with Sara. This book showcased more of the likable dominating Mark and I liked seeing that.

But really my favorite part of this book is Crystal. She's really great. I love the way she stands up for herself with everyone, not just Mark. She hasn't let her past or her family money to make her vulnerable or soft. And it was great to see Mark find someone that was willing to not only stand up to him, but to force himself to really delve into his feelings.

I really enjoyed this series, although the absence of Chris and Sara made this book not as exciting for me. There was a bunch of craziness and suspense and some really touching moments. I like Mark now, which is something I never thought I'd be able to say.

I have loved this series until now. While this book was enjoyable, it was slow for me. I initially found that I did not care for either Bowman or Kenzie. I didn’t quite get what was going on for the first half of the book. Bowman and Kenzie’s chemistry was strong but even after having a cub and living together for fifteen years, they have not mate bonded as required by all shifters. This became a major problem for the couple as well as an issue for all of Shiftertown. Maybe because this book was different than the previous six, I didn’t like it as much. I definitely love the series and plan to continue.

Best one yet. This series is great and each story builds on the last. We still get a mystery for the book that gets solved but we also go deeper i to Vic's past and the mystery of what is happening now. The supernatural elements here weren't as creepy so that was a plus.

Review: I really liked it, the writing wasn't one of the best but the plot was interesting and kept me reading. I loved all the characters and how it all wrapped together. I liked how throughout the book Jordan fixed her relationship with her father and he supported her.
In the beginning I liked Ty, he was new and intriguing and fun but after a while he got on my nerves because he basically dictated what she should do. The plot twist with the best friend being in love with her was a cliche and I didn't know where that would go but I'm glad that it ended like that.
There was this frustrating part of the book where nothing was going as it should have and I felt really sorry for Jordan in those moments
Overall, I really liked it and I would want to read more from this author.

This was fine, I read it because it was set in Mexico and then it turned out to be only 1/3 in Mexico but at least it worked for thriller and this challenge. I don't have a strong reaction, I wasn't that enamored of Milla, the main character. She's admirable but not that interesting. And really the story is basically sad although it has a HEA. There was enough thrill and Diaz kept things interesting but there were lots of leaps and jumps in the plot and ultimately it was just "fine".

This is book #7 in the League series. I bought this book the day that it was released and couldn’t wait to read it. Unfortunately, life got in the way, and it is a doorstopper of a book. However, once I began listening/reading to this book, I couldn’t stop. I was a little worried about the narrator, but he was fantastic. I loved getting to know Hauk more. The characters of Hauk and Sumi were fantastic.

All of the books in this series have been at least 500 pages. Book 8 just came out last week and is 527 pages. I am not going to wait much longer to continue with the series. Again, I purchased the book on the release day. It is on my next up TBR pile.

Chain of Command (Greenway Range, #1) by HelenKay Dimon by HelenKay Dimon
Rating: 4 Stars
Finished: 5/18/15

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I was expecting to. Sawyer and Hailey were compelling, fascinating characters with heartbreaking pasts and interesting hang-ups. Their first two meetings were funny, especially the meeting on Hailey’s porch. Their chemistry was combustible, especially when they were trying to fight it. I really loved watching them get to know each other and discover the secrets that they were both holding on tight to.

The secondary cast of characters were just as fun and now I cannot wait to read more in this series. I really want to continue to get to know all the characters and see how the gun range works out for everyone. The story and the characters kept me turning the pages and not wanting to put the book down. After the few sections written in Molly’s POV (Sawyer’s sister), I cannot wait to read her book. Jason needs a smack in the head to maybe knock some sense into him. How he could possibly miss what is right in front of his face is beyond me, but it will definitely lend to some entertaining reading.

I’ve read other books by HelenKay Dimon and I had enjoyed those. Apparently, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed those by the time I picked up Chain of Command. I will definitely read more by HelenKay. I need to get my hands on some of her previously published books as well as anything else that she puts out in the future.

Butterfly: What he did recall was the butterfly tattoo on her lower back and the sunflower on her hip.

I was a little weary going into this book. I had read other books by Ophelia London before and I hadn’t been all that impressed with those books. There was something about those books that did not work for me, so I was afraid the same would happen with Falling for Her Soldier. I immediately found myself intrigued by Charlie aka Hunter. I needed to know more about him, needed to know what his deal was and what kind of man he was. Charlie Johansson is definitely swoonworthy. He says almost all the right things, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win the girl, even dance in front of hundreds of people even though he has no training. He’s nearly perfect.

Ellie on the other hand was a little bit on the boring side. I did enjoy the goal she was working on accomplishing. I had one just like it once and there is something about it that is sort of freeing. Ellie eventually grew on me. I liked how she was with her brother Sam and that she wanted to volunteer at the center that he spent a lot of time at. I would love to get a story about her friend Jane. I liked her a lot. She was spunky and sassy and a lot of fun, I bet her story would be the same.

I am surprised, but happy to say that I really enjoyed Falling for Her Soldier. I am now looking forward to read Making Waves, even though it’s not about Charlie and Ellie, I am hoping that they’ll be in it just a little bit since the story is about another friend of theirs.

Review: Wow, that plot twist!!! I knew from the start that there would be an epic plot twist and maybe I would have enjoyed the twist more if I hadn't been spoiled for it because the whole book I was looking for signs of what it would be and I missed them all. I really didn't think that would be it.
The writing style was amazing! It was so poetic, sometimes confusing and beautifully written. She wove the mystery so well and kept me guessing what would happen the whole time. Some of the metaphors were so literal that I had to back up and read the section again. Like in the very beginning with her dad shooting her I was like "What!?" I recommend everyone going into this book to go in without knowing anything because it makes it so much better. It was so short but at the same time it felt like forever, it was a ride thats for sure.
Overall, I loved the writing, the mystery and the characters. The most heartbreaking part was the end for sure.

I read this for another challenge (set in Mexico, which I thought I was getting with Cry No More above but anyway....).

This is the book that helped start the barefoot running craze, although it's not really about that. It's about a tribe of Mexicans who are and always have been, super runners. The writer goes in search of them and tells a great story of running, ultra running, nutrition and grit. Eventually an ultra race is set up with the tribe members and some American ultra runners and fans but the story is really on what happens before then and how these people all were brought together. Interesting!

The author has a new book about British messengers who would run long distances to deliver messages during one of the World Wars. It looks really interesting and I'm sure it is since he's an excellent writer.

Another fast paced read from the In Death series. Roarke and Eve have just returned from a two week vacation. She is well rested and ready to return to work. Her first day on the job throws her into a homicide – of course! Unfortunately, this murder is too close to home for Eve.

The murderer is seeking revenge and had been plotting how to get even with Eve, the entire time that she was incarcerated. Now, the murderer is going after the only person in Eve’s life that really matters, her sexy hubby Roarke.

This book has it all – steamy romance, mystery, and murder. This is book #14 and I am still enjoying the series!

This was a pretty fun look at 4 out of 5 of the nuptials of the rock band Sinners. I really enjoyed getting more time with these characters, although I wish there had been more Trey. A lot of what we saw of him was in Brian and Myrna’s story, which felt a lot like a recap since we actually got to see a lot of that happening (not the wedding part, but the after the brawl at the strip club part). I think of them all, I liked Aggie and Jace’s story the most because of the secondary story that was going along with their story. It was really interesting and different.

I will definitely continue to read any Sinners books that are put out, but I’m really looking forward to the Exodus End series. I love Dare and I really, really need more Trey and Regan…not so much Ethan, but you take what you can get.

Review: This book was hilarious! In the beginning it was a little confusing but it got better as it went. I loved the occasional picture, there were few but cool. There were so many snarky comments between the characters, there was this one comment from the vampire about how he 'studied the battlefield' and research showed that the vampire always gets the girl. I laughed out loud there and people were looking at me strange.
The plot was interesting and the whole logic behind the species and the inkeepers was really intriguing.

A paranormal take on the sinking of the Titanic with werewolves... The writing seemed really juvenile at first, then picked up a bit. The author did a good job creating this entirely separate paranormal subplot and using the backdrop of the Titanic, but my question is, why. It was just a little silly. It almost worked but the ending was just ridiculous. I appreciate that the author tried this but ultimately it didn't work for me.

Full Moon Rising takes place in a futuristic society where werewolves, vampires, and humans live together. Riley Jensen, the heroine, is a vamp/ werewolf mix. Since she is more werewolf than vamp, she is overcome once a week each month with Moon Fever. During Moon Fever, she is overcome with the need to mate – to put it nicely! Because of the Moon Fever, Riley has several lovers. I felt this book spent way too much time on sex scenes than was really necessarily. At times, the book was extremely slow and boring. I preferred the secondary characters over the main ones, and just really couldn’t relate or understand Riley. Since this is book 1 of the series, I will read a couple more books to see if I want to continue. I do want to learn more about Quinn and the experiments that are being performed in the lab.
