Coraline by Neil Gaiman
162 pgs / GR
Standalone

Finished: 5/2/15
Rating: 4 stars

My son really liked this movie when it came out but I didn't realize until recently that this was a Neil Gaiman story. I haven't read Gaiman but I certainly will after this and I think this is a good entry point. The language is beautiful and clever and funny. The story is creepy but not too much for a child. It addresses many of the thoughts and fears of children, I'm bored, my parents won't play with me, what if there were an alternate world, what if a monster tried to get me. It also teaches a good lesson about facing your fears and making a plan to get out of a difficult situation. Excellent

Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie - from the list of Beautiful covers
Finished: 02/05/15

Review: Now, in the beginning I was bored to tears. It was so unapealing to me and there was nothing going on and the plot was just a girl deciding who to love. The sentences were short and explaining obvious actions but then as the book went on, everything started to get more complex and interesting.
I think the scene that won me over and made me want to read the rest of the book was when they went to the cinema and the film was showing people dying and everyone was thinking that it was overdone and fake but Ky knew and he was crying because he knew the truth and it was heartbreaking. And also the poem her grandfather gave her and how it was repeated throughought the book.
Another aspect I liked is the family and how they stuck together and just understood each other.
Overall, I was ready to give up on this book but it won me over and I would most probably read the rest.

Asa (Marked Men, #6) by Jay Crownover by Jay Crownover
Rating: 5 Stars
Finished: 5/2/15

I am sad, yet happy to have read this book. Sad because it's the end, happy because I've been waiting for Asa's story for a long time. I loved every minute of it. This was such a satisfying ending. I will definitely revisit my Marked Men down the road, maybe before Saints of Denver starts with Zeb's book...which I'm also looking forward to.

I'm going to PM her now in case she's forgotten. I like to think I post things and then realize later that I really didn't lol, so I know that is easy to do.

Debbie (Doc) | 1496 comments Sorry, I am working on my review. I had an emergency and have not been around my computer since Thursday. One of our close band boosters who the kids loved passed away suddenly after having surgery. I have been working with the band and talking to the kids. They are going to play at his funeral. I meant to come on here and post, and with all that has been going on just completely forgot.

Stars & Stripes
Book 6 in the series
Completed 4/30/15
4.5 stars rounded to 5

This is book 6 in the series. Each book from the series is now my favorite and this one is the same. I can’t seem to get enough of this series, which by now, is normally unusual for me! Ty makes a visit to his parent’s house and brings Zane with him. This one is more emotional between the two than all of the others, and I loved it. Ty’s brother, Deuce, being the shrink that he is, always knows what to say. Unfortunately, Zane receives a phone call that is Dad has been shot. It is apparent that Zane is close to his dad and also to his sister. However, there is some major tension between Zane and his mother. Ty decides to visit Zane at his dad’s house. During this time, they discuss their feelings for each other. Of course, some are excited that Zane has found a soulmate while others are not happy that said soulmate is a male. I am already counting down to read book 7 – this series is that good!

Baiting the Maid of Honor (Wedding Dare, #2) by Tessa Bailey by Tessa Bailey
Rating: 4 Stars
Finished: 5/4/15

Holy moly this book was steamy. I mean, I know what I’m going to be getting when I read a Tessa Bailey book. I know it’s going to be hot and sexy and difficult to put down. This was all that and more. I immediately liked Julie. She was a little uptight, but I knew she just needed someone to really see her. Reed…get out of here with this guy. He is freaking unbelievably sexy and demanding and that dirty talk…holy crow.

Even if you took out the fact that this book was all sorts of hot and the ridiculous chemistry between Reed and Julie, I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love watching people fight their attraction to someone else and I love watching two people try to move past their pasts and the crap that’s been dealt to them. I really love the premise of this series. Having different authors tackle the different characters was pretty awesome. So far, I’ve loved every second of every book in this series, I can’t wait to finish it.

Alternate - Fire on the Cover

The Burning Room (Harry Bosch, #19) by Michael Connelly
Completed 5/5/15
4 Stars

Normally I don’t read series books out of order but was told that this could be considered a stand- alone book. I need this one for a challenge so decided to jump in mid-way through the series. I love a good mystery and have several of these books but haven’t read any of them. I will definitely begin this series – like I need to start another one – soon!

Detective Harry Bosch has been assigned a cold case where the victim has died almost ten years after the actual crime. Now, that the death has been ruled a homicide, it is up to Harry and his new rookie partner, Detective Lucia Soto, to solve it. Harry and Lucia run into road blocks due to missing details.

I found all of the characters, especially Harry, to be believable. I also listened to this on audible, which took me a while to get used to the narrator. At first, he was rather monotone but did pick up towards the middle.

#6 in series
230 pgs / GR
Finished: 5/3/15
Rating: 3 stars

I have only read the first book in this series and then this one and I liked Book 1 better than this. Perhaps because by the time the author got to this book/brother some of the story seems a little repetitive. The family dynamic stuff didn't feel as original as in the first. Still, a more enjoyable series than I figured going in. In Zip Zero the hero is a football star, Sam, and he's been sidelined. He's wanted Peck forever but she's avoided him because she couldn't imagine he'd really want her. I'm not a huge fan of that trope but I did like these characters and the writing is zippy enough.

Review: Well, when I started this book I didnt expect it to start like that. There were statues falling, people getting hurt and panick. It was surtainly an interesting read to say the least. I don't know how any of the students survive a year at that school. It was hell for freshman. I hated how the teachers just looked the other way and only cared what would happen to the school. The scene where Lorelei told about Stein's 'accident' was heartbreaking. The writing style was intriguing and I am eager to read something else from this author.

Finished: 5/9/15

It makes me sad when I just can't get into a book by an author I really like, especially when I've enjoyed other books by her. I'm hoping that this was just a one off and maybe I wasn't in the mood for it. There are two more books in the series, so I'll get to those eventually, especially since those are books I got for review forever ago.

I really could not connect with Jennifer/Gwynn. The tone of the book reminded me of the Beauty series by Anne Rice, which I wasn't a huge fan of either. There were some moments in this book that I did enjoy. The intrigue of the bargains was interesting, but the rest was just weird. I didn't understand the "war" at all. Although, I really loved the part about The Thin Red Line and how boring of a movie it was. I 100% agree with that. I never even got through that movie cause it was so boring. That was almost the fate of this book, but I had to finish it for a challenge, so I couldn't quit.

I adore Jeffe Kennedy and will definitely read more by her, I just don't think I'll be running out to read the rest of this series just yet.

WOW – What an emotional surprise. This book kept me riveted not to mention up all night reading it! I laughed, I cried, and at times wanted to throw a rock. With each book in this series, I have loved Ty and Zane more. In the past, Ty has been this cool collected guy – not so in this book. Secrets were revealed and it was apparent that Ty truly loves Zane.

The author broke down both characters only to begin rebuilding this as much stronger individuals as well as a much stronger couple. I was a little disappointed that this book was not on audible but after reading it I’m glad that it wasn’t. I have been reading this series too fast and need to slow down or I am going to finish it. I love my Ty and Zane fix!

Review: Wow, this was not wat I expected. I thought it would be some book full of smut and dirty stuff but it actually was more fun and interesting that I first thought it would be. I loved the relationship between Simon and Caroline and all their interactions. I don't know why but I expected there to be more drama and angst but I am glad that there wasn't. I don't know about the rest of the books in the series but I would like to finish it with a happy ending without all the drama that comes later.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and had a blast reading it. I would most probably read some of Alice Claytons other books but I don't know how soon that would be.

I liked the first book in this series and then skipped a bunch to book 6 which I didn't like as much. This book 7 brought me back around to the story, perhaps because it was moving away from the Reeds a bit and told the story of Josh, the ex con who ends up working in their tattoo shop. The writing is good and the story moves quickly. There is a bit too much instalove and not a lot of depth to the characters but it flowed smoothly and I liked Star and Josh.
