@Mannat Sorry I’m not angry or trying to be rude, I’m just tired and you keep asking questions that you could find the answers to if you just read around a bit on the group. I’m always happy to help but it’s a little annoying when people ask what’s already been answered because it’s like you haven’t bothered to try to find the answers yourself, especially when I’ve already gone out of my way to make things simple by explaining stuff because I know it can be confusing for someone new! Also just because I don’t use a billion emojis doesn’t mean I’m angry lol!

Anyway, it’s fine, I’m not mad! The rules state that the team with the most points win, so yes there’s a winning team. And a couple of comments above this, Patricia asked if there’s a prize and I answered saying no and then Aurora suggested a prize some other challenges hosted by other groups offer which I thought was cool and I said I would look into. Long answer short, no there isn’t a prize. It also makes me feel bad to have to repeat that because I didn’t realise until this year that people even wanted a prize, it’s never seemed important before. But that’s not on you, it’s on me. Sorry, I don’t want it to be like you don’t ask questions when you have them, just please double check that the answers don’t already exist elsewhere or in a discussion. And please don’t create new discussion pages! It messes with my organisation lol
Anyway, hope you’re ok, it’s all good😊

@Mannat I just want to add that I’m definitely not mad at you for your questions or for calling me out when you got a funny vibe. I actually like that, always stand up for yourself!

I’m happy to help you and anyone else who has questions. I’m super happy that we’re getting participants for this challenge so it’s great you signed up. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, I can’t wait!🎉😊

Jami wrote: "I'm in the same boat. Don't know how many books I'll be able to read. Bus it does sound fun!!!"

Maybe see how many books you read this month and decide from that. There’s definitely no pressure to join in, but I do think it’d be fun to have you along. Either way it’s cool and there’s still loads of time to decide

message 54: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments Frankly, I think we are competitive enough without adding a prize into the mix. Sometimes extrinsic rewards bring out the worst in people.

message 55: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments Still not sure. I need to find some middle grade books that I really want to read.

True.

@Lynn I actually agree. Although it would be really cool to do like a little badge kind of thing you can add to your profile, it also takes the fun out of it reading for the challenge just to get the points or reading just to help your team or even reading just to complete tasks.

Well, we definitely don’t need a prize as an incentive, I’m really happy to say we all commit to the challenge in our own ways when we’re able to.

I remember that one time we had someone too competitive and wow, the drama. I feel too old for that now😂 it’s not worth the stress for anyone really!
But I’m still going to look into it. Maybe not a badge as a prize but a badge for participating. I think that idea from Aurora is really cool and creative!

message 58: by AurorainBookland (new)

AurorainBookland | 741 comments a participation badge is a better idea.

Michelle (michelleolson) | 14 comments Can someone please reshare the link to sign up? Id love to join a team.

message 60: by AurorainBookland (new)

AurorainBookland | 741 comments link is 3rd post down from the top.

message 61: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 516 comments A badge would be cool! Maybe we can have a team badge or something, I don’t know. Also yea I remember the drama that happened that first year. That was crazy but it’s funny in hindsight. Personally, I just like the challenge and prioritizing my middle grade books. So I’m fine with either or.

message 62: by Georgann (new)

Georgann | 124 comments I am going to sign up again. It was fun last year, but I realized I kinda OD'ed on MG books by the end of all my frantic (but fun) reading. So this year I am determined to commit to less books so I can enjoy it more.

message 63: by Gale (new)

Gale Harrigan | 51 comments I'm excited to join in again this year! Just signed up :)

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments I signed up, so I'm ready to start looking for some books to fill those prompts.

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Georgann lol that’s the opposite of what I usually say. Please give me your franticness! I have read a lot less mg books this year so I hope I can make up for it in august. I remember I made some really rubbish book choices for last year’s challenge though. It’s so difficult to choose what to read and for it to a task!

@Gale great to have you back for another year!😊

@Lynn I have an mg shelf just for this reason! https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 67: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments Yay!

message 68: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 455 comments And MG+ books are more YA, so you can find a pretty good variety of books that qualify.

message 69: by Capn (last edited Jul 13, 2023 12:58PM) (new)

Capn | 291 comments I don't think I'll be able to sign up this year - we're moving houses in early August. :( Books are half packed, library accounts will soon be deregistered... :(

But I did hope to participate again! I had such fun last year! :)

Looking forward to next year's run - best of luck to everyone, and I hope it's a really fun one for everyone!

@Kadi - any tips for promotion of the challenge? I can do my bit by advertising for you this year instead of taking part. :)

message 70: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Audrey I will be banking on that and probably reading more MG+ books this year. For some reason MG doesn’t hold my interest as much anymore unless it’s a really great book. I also think I need to explore some more lesser known MG books because those kind of hidden gems are ones I usually love.

@Capn oh no! You will be missed😞 good luck with the house moving and we’ll be happy to have you back next year!

As for promoting the challenge, that’s very kind of you to offer to help! We actually only need 2 more people and then we have enough for 3 teams! If we get more than 2 people I may have to make groups smaller to make the sizes equal, unless we get about 10 more people, but that’s probably pushing it as there’s only a few days left to sign up now. I’ll be sending out another group-wide message to entice any last minute stragglers!

message 71: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 455 comments Can we get the prompts five days or so early to start placing library holds?

message 72: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Audrey Hmm I know we’ve discussed this in the past as well and I’ve always ruled against it because I thought it ruined the surprise which is part of the fun of the challenge, but I do get your point about it being difficult for library users.

How about this: as an icebreaker, each team picks a number between 1 & 20 and then I reveal those categories.
What do you think? Could it make it more fun than just revealing them all. I like this idea!

@Jami awesome! If you could please fill in the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1X_x1... then I can add you to the list.

I think we have enough people for 3 teams now guys🎉
It’ll most likely be teams of 7 with each having a captain and sub-captain (because we had a lot of volunteers this time👏🏻)

Sure, that'll be a good experiment.

FYI, I am driving my daughter to college on Saturday, so I will be offline that day, but I am not AWOL.

Ilsen | 516 comments I love the idea of a sneak peek!! And very excited for the challenge! I read a lot more this month so I feel confident that I can contribute a bit!

@Audrey no problem, thanks for letting me know! Hope you both enjoy the day😊

And for those who won’t be able to check in with their teams immediately, there’s no worry. I’ve actually got a flight on the 22nd and land early morning 23rd so I may be a bit tired or a little AWOL, but that’s why I’m pre-organising stuff.

Anyway, here’s the timeline:
20th July - Sign ups close
23rd July - Teams are announced
27th July - Each team to chooses a category to be revealed
29th July - Last last deadline to check in with your team
1st August - We start!!🎉

@Lynn @Gale @Little Reading Wizard yay! It seems like a unanimous vote on the category sneak peeks! I think it’s going to be really fun to see which categories get picked. Also I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions because there are some really good categories with themes that link the tasks in out of the box ways.

@Ilsen that has been me too this month! Although the bar was already low considering I barely read anything last month, I’ve found I’ve had a much bigger drive to read this month. It’s that pre-challenge drive👏🏻

Patricia wrote: "Me too! I also love the idea of a sneak peek. I have a lot of books on my tbr list right now:D"

Glad you like the idea!

I haven’t even looked at my TBR shelf yet. For some reason it gives me stress. It’s like the books on there don’t excite me which is weird because at some point they did otherwise I wouldn’t have added them on there. I think it’s like a lack of organisation kind of thing or the pressure you feel from seeing loads of things you could choose from. I think I’m going to use the challenge to read outside of my TBR as well as randomly pick from it.

Hey everyone, sign ups are now closed! If there’s anyone out there who still wants to sign up, please drop me a direct message and I’ll see if it’s possible to add you in.

Teams will be announced 23rd July!

I’ll send out a message to you all when they’re announced so no one will miss it!

Sure:) Me too! There are many books on my TBR shelf right now and I feel stressed too which books I will read! But I thought maybe I would plan which books I would read for next month's challenge and I did! I already made plans for which books I'm going to read for next month's challenge:D

I'm really excited about the announcement on July 23! Like really! I thought about who my teams I was going to be and what will be the prompts(even though I already made plans for the challenge😅😅)

How?! You can't pick books without knowing if they will fit the prompts.

message 89: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Aurora true that but you can still keep books in mind. The tasks this year are a mix of specific things and things that definitely are in a lot of books. That way you can both read whatever you want and fit it to a task and also choose books specifically for tasks.

Once the 3 categories are revealed people will get more of an idea. I’m quite proud of how random yet linked the tasks are to each categories’ theme!

Hi Anissa, sorry for the wait! I just wanted to give it a day or two to see if any team has a missing member and then you could join that team so we don’t have any team with an uneven number.

Everyone has checked in from Team B and Team C.
So you can join Team A, Anissa, that’s my team! Please drop in on our team discussion page when you can!
