Two very clear winners today! As a reminder, we do not do bottom/close call/polarizing for the pre-poll.

Top:
A book published in 2024
A book connected to something you read in 2023

Listopias:
A book published in 2024
A book connected to something you read in 2023

The first round of suggestions will open around 8 am CST on Saturday, July 1!

Agreed! Love both of these.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments As luck would have it I've already started a 2024 wishlist so I've copied those over onto the listopia. I usually use the connected to previous year prompt to continue with a series.

Same Ellie. Or read an author's backlist if I discovered a new author in that year.

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I think I'm going to do a book mentioned in another book for the connected to, I had a lot of those this year. I've read everything in The Reading List except A Suitable Boy and that's like 1500 pages so nope. But as we know The Sentence has some good ones. I'm also about to start The Shadow of the Wind and I expect some good ones there too.

And always love published in the current year.

I love reading books mentioned in another book =D

I hadn't thought about connecting it this way. Good idea.

Jill | 725 comments Even though I upvoted 4, I am kind of glad only 2 got through. I didn’t really want so many spots filled right off the bat. I really enjoy the process and last year it seems we finished the list pretty quickly. Of course, if it drags on this year, I might wish more had gotten in off this pre-poll. LOL

We had the same number of polls (and finished near the same date) in the last two years! I'd be ok if it didn't go into October like the last couple of years haha!

Me, too, on going into October!

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3270 comments I'm happy with published in 2024 and unsurprised by other vote (Goodreads Choice Awards) didn't make it.

Not really a fan of the other prompt. It's much too vague for me, and with the number of books I typically read in a year, I'm sure nearly anything could connect to one.

message 14: by Bea (new)

Bea | 430 comments I'm not in love with either prompt, but I am more able to imagine finding a book for the second one (A book connected to something you read in 2023) than the first. I just do not often read something written in the current year as it is too hard to get the books from the library.

However, I frequently will be reading two mysteries or a mystery and a non-fiction and realize that both are set in the same area of the world (like the Amazon) or feature the same topic (archeology), which I had not been aware of when I chose those books at that time to read.

message 15: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3845 comments I’m happy with both prompts. I don’t normally plan current year reads but always find something on the new books shelf at the library or put a book on hold when I first hear about it, sometimes before it’s even in circulation.

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1205 comments Looking forward to "A book connected to something you read in 2023". I read a lot of nonfiction, which isn't always as easy to work into challenge prompts as fiction is. There are always new books coming out on nonfiction topics I read about, so this will be a fun one for me.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3845 comments I always like the book connected to something you read in the previous year! I have a series I’m reading and may save the last one for 2024. Another idea is a “contemporary” book by a Latin American author since I’m reading classics this year. Some of the authors cross over that 50 year mark (1973). I’m looking forward to the new prompts list!!
