DONE Fixing author names for a translated series

This series is written, illustrated and translated by Japanese authors and artist. Most books have the English names only in the author names.. But some of the books have the japanese names. Consequently The author page for Miya Kazuki does not list all the books. Since books written in multiple languages are supposed to list the English first and then the Japanese, if I did that for author, illustrator and translator, it would not be consistant with most of the entries. This might take a bit of a judgement call.

Also, the english name author page links to the Japanese, but not vise versa.

I can easily make the changes myself, but as a new librarian I am following protocol by asking here first when unsure. I feel that I should simply change the names to match the rest of the series. The manual states that the English name should be followed by the name in another language. But in this case, the original series in Japanese has a separate series page attached to an author page for the Japanese name of the author. The English series page shows the translated books with the Japanese the book entries replaced as the translated book comes out.

Just wanted to confirm my instincts before using my judgement over the instructions in the manual. Please let me know which way to progress.

I don't think I completely understand what you are asking. If the English translations are legal, all editions of all the books by this author should have the English author name first.

Here is my question.

The manual states to put the English name of the author first and then their name used in the other language. Most of her books show author, illustrator, translator all in Latin lettering ( English). That is what I eventually did, since no one responded til now. If I follow the manual and show both languages, Should I show all three names in both languages with a total of 6 names? None of the books show that.

The English editions should only have the names in English. The Japanese editions should have the English names as primary and the Japanese names as secondary authors. If that means having 6 names on the Japanese editions, so be it.

This rule is to ensure that one author page (the English one) has all the books by that particular author.

Thank you, lethe, for this clear explanation. This semi-newbie librarian has been so very confused by the rules for translated author names (the previous threads made my head hurt), but you have made it simple.

I forgot to add that this rule also ensures that the combine page of the English primary author contains all the books.
