Welcome to the That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on July 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

Week of 07/01
July 01: Chapters 1-6
July 02: Chapters 7-12

Week of 07/03

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments I started this one today. It’s so short that I feel like I’ll be done early despite our quick reading schedule. So far I’m enjoying the FMC’s fiery spirit, she is taking no BS from anyone (although she is a little bit of a doormat for the demon hero).

I really like how the hero is constantly seeking little instances of physical contact with the heroine. That’s one of those “micro tropes” or whatever that I love in romance.

The worldbuilding is bare bones, but that’s what I would expect from a book that’s only 190 pages.

Jen K | 1547 comments Me too. I'm happy to finish up tonight/ tomorrow if you want to read faster.

I like Cinnamon and all the ridiculous names. It is a fun concept even if a bit low tech/ minimal worldbuilding. I wasn't expecting it to get so spicy which I don't mind but also really not fond of using the c word.

Jen K | 1547 comments Okay I finished. It was ridiculous but in a good way, really fun romp. I liked how she took on racism and slavery. I liked the new characters and their banter. The spicy talk was a bit much and not my style so I'm not sure I would read another one but cute enough. I did appreciate the diversity and all together sense of unity.

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments I got to 80% last night. I agree that the spicy talk was not my cuppa either and it felt out of place honestly because the rest of the story has had a really simple fairytale or almost childlike feel. Everything has been tied up with rainbows and pretty bows. Hero girl walks into evil city and solves slavery!! Yay!😐

But it’s also fun and silly and entertaining. So I don’t mind too much.

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments Yeah of course! Join us!!

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments Okay, I'm done! It was fun, but I don't have much more to say about it...

I do want to read book 2, since it's about the werewolf and Usha.

@Jen K @Catherine would you want to continue the buddy read to book 2?

If the book is a fun read I would absolutely join for book 2. I just got the book today so I'll try to start it today/tomorrow. I'm on vacation and out o..."

sounds good, hope you enjoy!

I could do later this week, I think... my reading schedule is super full, but these are so short that I could probably fit it in anywhere.

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments We could use this same thread for #2 too.

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments I’ll probably read it sometime around this weekend or next Monday, but I’ll be around to discuss!

Jen K | 1547 comments I'm going to pass on this one but look forward to your discussion!

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments Ok, so I finished book 2! (view spoiler)

About the final battle (view spoiler)

Helen 2.0 (helen2point0) | 179 comments My favorite character hands-down was Alexis the talking sword.
