Ellen | 3521 comments Having been raised by her single mother Angie for 18 years, Romany was unprepared for life on her own. About to finish her schooling before heading off to college she was unsure how she would navigate her future without her loving Mum. Angie, however, had been prepared for this eventuality when she learned of her terminal illness. In a letter to her solicitor she named 4 guardians to help Romany manage everyday issues and future plans. Three of the people she had known since her own days at university 30 years ago: Maggie, a dedicated lawyer with a firm grasp on all things practical; Leon, a shy and emotional man with a huge musical talent that Angie feels he has wasted; Tiger, a literal nomad who never seemed to stay in any one place for long, flitting about the world as his impulses take him; Hope, a new friend Angie met in a business class for adults, a young and beautiful ex-model who doesn't seem to fit with the other long cherished friendships. Although the 4 guardians are there for Romany at every turn, it seems that Angie had a larger life plan for them as they learn to bond over their friend's daughter. And what of Hope? There is definitely something about her that Angie knew Romany would eventually need.

This is a lovely story of a strong friendship that stood the test of time. The personalities could not be more different but they blend beautifully into a caring 'family' unit. I enjoyed it very much.
