Firestar's Quest question

I have been thinking about mating in warrior cats , Like how does it work ? . since Sandstorm's mate is her leader and she eventually had kits did she at one point have to go up to him and ask to do the dirty . And if it's like that at what place would they do it cause they can't do it at their camp ? .
