Wendy Irwin | 2 comments Read in the last six ish years. There's a main female character who works for a small Dublin-based magazine as some sort of a writer/editor. She is not especially fashionable. The magazine is small and unfashionable and features things like knitting patterns. The publishing syndicate the magazine is part of is cutting back on projects that aren't profitable, and this magazine is at risk of being shut down. I think the book starts with the main character and her team interviewing for their own jobs?? A new female boss is sent over from London (??) to turn things around. The new boss is extremely fashionable, ambitious, creative, and a difficult personality (I kind of liked her and loved to hate her all at once). She does not want this assignment, but she takes it so she can prove herself and get put as a lead on something better. I'm pretty sure the leading male character works for the corporate team that is considering whether to shut down the magazine; he may be the boss's son or the actual boss but I can't remember exactly. The book switches perspectives periodically and the plot mostly centers around the attempts to rejuvenate the magazine. There's a best female friend character, and at some point the main female character also starts dating this comedian who does a lot of "everyday life" standup (Jerry Seinfeld type). He becomes moderately popular with his comedy and turns out to be a bit of a jerk, even stealing a story from the main female character and using it as his own material; I think he also may cheat on her at some point. They break up, and eventually the main female andale characters get together at the end of the book. Pretty sure the magazine is saved and the tough female boss also gets her chance to lead a better project elsewhere.
