I finally read Wool. Had the book sitting on a shelf for far too long. It was yet another book I wish I had read sooner. Enjoyed the story and want to read the other two in the series.

Horrid - ★★★★
House of Rot - ★★★★★
The Last Word - ★★★★
Legends & Lattes - ★★★★
Cackle - ★★★★★ (Reread)
Nettle & Bone - ★★★★★
The Navajo Nightmare - ★★★★ (on KU)

Currently reading:

- A house with good bones
- A head full of ghosts
- Down below
- The final girl support group
started Episode Thirteen
Just a few pages in so no opinion of it yet. Seems like reviews for it are all over the place.

Oooooo I started that one a while ago and ended up giving up on it. It may have been bad timing for me to start a book or maybe the book just wasn't for me. Looking forward to your thoughts!

This is the latest novel from the master of horror Ramsey Campbell and it shows that he is still at the height of his powers. This one put me a little in mind of Richard Mathison's What Dreams May Come. Scares, darkness and heart all combine in this superb novel

Yes, I've read it. His books are really good. I wish he would publish more often.

Finished The Exorcist and (I know I'm in the minority) was completely underwhelmed by it. Except for a few good moments with the priest and the demon, the writing is dry as toast.

I agree! There were some parts between the demon and the priest where I was metaphorically clutching my pearls, but otherwise it was just draagginggg. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to think so.

I'll give the movie makers credit for sticking to the storyline pretty closely and creating a great movie. But the book's writing style and dialogue were terrible, and there was too much filler that didn't add to the story or characters.
Still, this was better than the book Jaws. Now that was a horrible mess of a novel that somehow got turned into a great movie (one of my all-time favs).

I just finished The Hunting Party

I just finished Dracula a couple of days ago, my first time reading it! I ended up really liking it by the end, but I will also freely admit to scanning some of the long chunks of dialogue because certain parts were so slow 😅

I've read Dracula twice and really love it. But I can understand how someone would not like the writing style as it tends to be very different from today's styles. It's still one of those books that I think every horror fan should read just to get the original Dracula story instead of the millions of other versions of it.

I read this book a few years ago as a challenge to myself because the movie always terrified me as a kid and was so bored. I didn't find it scary at all. I do like the book for Legion a little more. But it has also been years since I read it.

And listening to the Terror by Dan Simmons, really amazing writing with historical context as it's about a ship stuck in the ice and the reality of that horror and the horror of a beast that seems to be hunting them....perfect for these hot summer days!

Oh that sounds interesting. I'll have to see if I can find it.
