Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Thank you Paul! I will head over to kboards today. I've had your book nominated for a couple of weeks. Before I entered my novel, I've been enjoying the perks of the program and reading the books I have gotten :) Best of luck to you as you wrap of your campaign!!

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Hello Pamela. Nice to meet you and thanks for pointing out I was posting the Kindle Scout link. I just reviewed your novel excerpt. It sounds like a fascinating read as well as all of the places you lived :) I am putting it on my list to nominate (waiting for Paul's book to wrap up too :)

Ann Simpson (annsimpson) | 3 comments Hello everyone! I found this group at the end of my KS campaign for Save Nina, which ended on December 7, 2015. On the last day of voting, Save Nina was hot! It's amusing how one day on the hot list gives me great satisfaction. Save Nina is in review at KS. I'm please to meet everyone, and to have an opportunity to read your experiences.

We've been discussing how our collective obsession with the Hot List is both silly and satisfying, and wondering how much difference it really makes. THE IRONWOOD PROPHECY (https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1N97...) jumps in and out of the hot list hour by hour, which drives me crazy. I will be SO pleased if your book gets chosen after one day hot. I thought it sounded really good.

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Hello Ann, Nice to meet you & good luck with Save Nina!

message 156: by Ann (new)

Ann Simpson (annsimpson) | 3 comments Thank you Pamela and Nicole. Pamela, getting selected after being on the hot one list for day out of thirty would be an interesting topic, and seriously lucky. It's all good. Nicole thanks and nice meeting you.

Kimberly (kggiarratano) | 8 comments My YA mystery, Dead and Breakfast, went live today. I enjoy reading the threads. It will be a long 30 days.

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Welcome Kimberly. I just read your blurb and added it to my saved list. There are so many good books up now! I'm using the opportunity to build up my library...it's also a good distraction from watching Expert Witness move on and off of the hot & trending list : /

Sarah Dalton (sarahdalton) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this group. It's great to read through everyone's journeys and see that we're all going through the same experience. :)

My thriller, Saving April, has been hot and trending, but it dips in and out, so I'm sure the next month is going to be a lot of hardwork!

This is it on Kindle Scout in case anyone wants to check it out. :) https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/5PD9...

Pamela Keyes | 16 comments I know some of you are on the Kboards page too, but I'm hoping for any final nominations from Goodreads! My campaign is over on Sunday evening, and I can use all the votes I can get. Please check out THE IRONWOOD PROPHECY, and I'll do the same for your campaign: https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1N97...

Thanks for the mention, Nancy. I also prepared a little handout that I gave to groups I met in person (in my case church and bridge club were the two most important)

Pamela Keyes | 16 comments Who else is currently running a KS campaign that is following this thread on Goodreads? Is anyone else here looking for a couple more votes before their campaign ends soon? I'd be happy to take a look!

Pamela Keyes | 16 comments And thank you, Magnus, for your nomination....

Kimberly (kggiarratano) | 8 comments I got my copy of Land Sharks because I was smart to nominate it -- looking forward to reading it. Way to go, Nancy, my sister in crime.

message 169: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kggiarratano) | 8 comments I've been spacing out my campaign of begging for people to look at my submission. When it dips off the H*T, I hit up a few groups. I wait, when it dips, I contact another group. I'm spacing out my efforts.

message 170: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dalton (sarahdalton) | 2 comments Thank you for the advice Nancy! I'm trying to space out my campaign. I've joined a ton of Facebook groups and I've been posting in them when I drop out of H&T.

My time on H&T has been a bit sporadic, which makes me a little paranoid, but I'm hoping once my mailing list Email goes out in a few days it'll stay steady for a while. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :)

Good luck to everyone too!

I've got five days to go - ending on Dec 27. My book, Regina's World, is the only one ending on that day.

And, I have a nomination slot open tomorrow - who needs it?

Regina's World is on my saved/nominate list, along with Expert Witness, Divine Hotel, Dead & Breakfast, and Saving April :-) Who are we missing here?

My campaign ended the day before yesterday. My stats were good but jerky, and I know a couple of books I was CERTAIN would get chosen who didn't.... It's killing me as I wait for the verdict...

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Hang in there Kimberly! I thought the waiting was so much harder as well. I was probably one of the few who didn't hit refresh very often on the Scout site, but I sure visited it every half hour or so during the waiting period (especially after that initial 48 hour cutoff). I tried to work on my back-up plan but concentrating was difficult. I think it's worse because there is not too much you can do at that point. But you already have previous publications, which I think is a huge plus. Hopefully, you will receive some good news soon :) Best of luck!

Thanks! If not selected, I have a lot to do to get D&B up -- proofreading and formatting, and reviews, etc etc. I'll be too busy to be bummed for long.

message 182: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kggiarratano) | 8 comments I'm still waiting and the anxiety is killing me. Can't concentrate on anything else right now.

message 183: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Hoping for good news. Once you pass the first 48 hours, the news seems to come more often at the end of the day from what I've seen (5-7EST).

message 184: by Paul (new)

Paul Emery I've written and published two novels and a non-fiction (NFL Draft) work as an indie author. In all three cases my inability to market (or have the funds to throw at it) has been a frustration.

While writing my third novel (first in a planned series), I've been thinking about giving Kindle Scout a go. My concern was that those who can market their campaign would be selected over those who can't (which would be me!). So I'm encouraged reading through the posts in this thread that just being on the Hot List for as many days as possible isn't the only factor.

I figure an unsuccessful campaign will only cost me 45 days, so I will give it a go. I'm going to at least attempt not to worry about it too much, go in with low expectations and see what happens! In the meantime I can use the time to start work on book two in the series! I'll post the campaign page link when it's up.

message 185: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments Good luck Paul! There is definitely more to Kindle Scout than the H&T list. Recently, there were books who remained on the H&T for almost the entire duration of the campaign that were not selected. I don't think anyone is entirely sure about which factors are most important, but a good cover, blurb and a well-written and edited novel are a good start. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks Nicole! I'm going to try and avoid looking at the H&T list too much - try being the operative word!!

Good luck, Paul. For anyone else considering whether or not Kindle Scout makes sense for them, I have a blog that takes you through a decision tree.

message 189: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Luckourt (nicole_luckourt) | 22 comments James, I thought you did a great job summing KS up in your blog/tree. Adding the additional information on the marketing concerns related to not being selected is helpful as I've heard this issue brought up more lately.

Just curious, is there any type of consensus on the average time it takes a KS published author to earn back his/her advance? (Obviously, there will be differences from book to book but on average?)

message 190: by Erik (new)

Erik Therme Hello to all!

I've already connected with a ton of great Kindle Scout participates, and I figured I'd jump into the fray here as well. My novel, Resthaven, is almost halfway through the campaign, and so far (I think) it's going pretty well. 30 days is a LONG to promote the work--and I'm already suffering minor fatigue--but as we all know, promotion is half the battle. Which, naturally, brings me to a shameless plug. :)

For anyone interested in taking a look at Resthaven, here's the link and synopsis. Thanks!

https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1TM3...

The last thing Kaylee wants to do is participate in a childish scavenger hunt—especially inside the abandoned retirement home on the edge of town. When she finds a bruised, deaf boy hiding inside one of the rooms, she vows to lead him to safety . . . only to discover the front doors are now padlocked, and her friends are nowhere to be found. Kaylee is about to learn that not everything that goes ‘bump in the night’ is imaginary, and sometimes there are worse things to fear than ghosts.

Nope, not yet

message 197: by Erik (new)

Erik Therme Teresa wrote: Nope, not yet"

I wonder why no audio books. It's interesting that they acquire those rights (but don't exercise them).

message 198: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 3 comments Erik, it's a question a lot of kindle scout authors have been talking about for a while, but I don't know the answer as to why no audio yet.

message 199: by Erik (new)

Erik Therme For anyone interested, I wrote a short (and pretty basic) overview of Kindle Scout for the Iowa Writers' House: http://iowawritershouse.org/blog/2016...

Peter Banks | 2 comments Hello all,

Really glad that I found this! I looked around everywhere for a place where Kindle Scout folks congregate. My campaign began last week. It certainly is interesting to read the perspectives on what it means to be hot and trending. It seems like that is what everyone wants, but it certainly does NOT appear to count for everything. Anyway, I look forward to participating in further discussions.

My campaign for my book, The Second Sphere, has been doing okay. It fell off of hot the other day, but I am just going to keep pressing forward.

Do you all think that it matters whether your campaign begins with many other books, or does it not matter
