Audrey’s version | 51 comments I’m gonna get so much hate for this but “enemies to lovers “😭 I’m just too sensitive for it. Sometimes they’re too disrespectful to each other, and that’s something I can’t really enjoy. I do get the thrill that comes with them suddenly being romantic, but overall it’s not my favorite trope. I also don’t like second chances

faye | 232 comments fake-dating, it’s always the exact same plot and i feel like it takes all the tension and intrigue out of the story

message 3: by Mary ♥ (new)

Mary ♥ | 207 comments Cheating, love triangles, OM/OW. I want my characters to be obsessed with each other.

message 4: by chey🦇 (new)

chey🦇 | 94 comments I really dislike tropes that are popular and thrown in just for the traction it brings when recommended on socials like one bed trope, “who did this to you trope” etc. enemies to lovers has no place in romance novels it’s more accurate to say rivals to lovers bc enemies is so serious to me. Also the pregnancy trope/single parent trope. I have nieces and nephews that are young and I always notice that kids in books are way too sophisticated and it’s not accurate to reality so I skip any of those tropes too

Lynn 👩‍⚕️ | 52 comments Fake dating and mafia love. Fake dating always has the same ending and it just gets so boring and predictable. As for mafia love I CANNOT stand it, I hate it with every molecule in me. (Although I’ve only read one book from this trope, but it told me all I needed to know).

Ri ♡ | 21 comments I don’t like friends to lovers & second chance romance (the only exception Happy Place by Emily Henry). LOVE enemies to lovers ,office romances and marriage of convenience 😍

message 7: by Harmony :) (new)

Harmony :) | 29 comments Whenever the FMC is oblivious to their feelings towards the MMC. Like when it is obvious to every other person that they are in love, but they continually deny it over and over; they say “I’m not in love with him,” while they are daydreaming about him 24/7. << This always frustrates me so much 🙄

message 8: by anai ♡ (new)

anai ♡ | 185 comments I’ve never loved second chance romances…

message 9: by Emy-Lou (new)

Emy-Lou | 23 comments i feel like the "mafia trope" is way too romanticised and authors shouldn't even write books about this since most of the time its a 13year old child who will read it and hope to fall in love with a "mafia boy 🥀🤭"

message 10: by shania (new)

shania i don't like second chances

message 16: by paola🏺 (new)

paola🏺 (balkanwineaunt) | 44 comments ok here i go: billionaire romance, vampire romance, mafia/gangster romance, arranged/forced marriages, kidnapping and stockholm syndrome, love triangles, fake dating, rivals to lovers (esp if it‘s workplace rivals), boss employee, teacher student, city girl country boy, manic pixie dream girl. dishonorable mention: the “strong” female character.

message 17: by caleigh (new)

caleigh (busy) | 265 comments the mafia/alpha male + who did this to you tropes have gotten too repetitive for me. + anything with a weird power dynamic (teacher/student etc) just makes me uncomfortable

Isha ☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚ | 139 comments “hates everyone but you” like ewww are you really going to fall in love with someone who’s going to be an asshole to your friends and literally everyone else around you?

message 20: by Liberty ^•^ (new)

Liberty ^•^ | 29 comments Age gaps, love at first sight (I mean it as literally just meeting someone and instantly falling in love with them), Abusive or possessive, and super duper smutty relationships that turn into true love

August (Dean's Version) age gap. like ur 17, why are you flirting with a 20 year old man and WHY is he flirting back.

message 39: by Cookie (new)

Cookie (dreamreads) | 2 comments for me it’s the miscommunication trope. it’s so infuriating to watch them throw away the entire relationship over nothing. especially when one character just hears a small part of something being said about them and gets mad. it’s like please just TALK ???

message 40: by sara ⋆౨ৎ˚ (new)

sara ⋆౨ৎ˚ | 42 comments cheating, love triangle, bully

⋆⭒˚。⋆ Lex | 314 comments cheating, most love triangles, miscommunication, most bully

message 42: by Alessia (new)

Alessia | 11 comments second chance romance and miscommunication are just bad + third act breakups should come with a trigger warning, i feel they're such a lazy way of building conflict/tension and they're RARELY relevant to the plot/character development. like ok you breakup cry for 1 day and then everything is actually fine because you now can declare your love? nah come up with something better

message 43: by dee (hiatus) (new)

dee (hiatus) (deevinez) | 32 comments Love triangles, second chance romance, fake dating. A book with those tropes needs to be straight up top tier for me to go anywhere near it.

-third act breakups
-alpha/sigma male where mmc is too dominant and insensitive

message 47: by Tayjah (new)

Tayjah @Kay three years is not an age gap.

But I don’t like enemies to lovers. It just seems like the author forces it instead of it feeling natural. It’s also very overplayed to the point where I can’t find an original enemies to lovers w no cliches.

message 48: by Aideen (new)

Aideen Pregnancy, I've only seen like 2 times where it actually worked.
Miscommunication
Bully x victim
step siblings
cheating

message 49: by Renée (new)

Renée I hate enemies to lovers when it’s not actually enemies to lovers. When they’re going on about how they hate each other but there’s no real basis for it, they just keep saying it and being snarky with each other. Like plz don’t be so transparent. Really bugs me

Agnes (Taylor’s version) | 11 comments I really don’t like pregnancy trope, it can work sometimes. I think I’ve read one book with a pregnancy trope that I’ve actually liked.
