Protagonist Ryan and his wife suffer a tragic loss when their daughter is stillborn. Their marriage does not survive. He goes to Wyoming to see his grandfather who is hospitalized after an accident, taking his daughter’s quilt, which he plans to bury in a special place. He meets some very odd people who think he killed their sister/cousin. This story is one of loss and grief, or is it a mystery thriller? It is almost as if the author changed his mind half-way through. At the end we find out some key pieces of information, which would have been useful to know earlier in the story. I presume this is supposed to be a “twist,” which seems to have become a requirement these days. It just did not work for me at all. The prose is fine. I think there is a good story in here somewhere and I kept hoping it would gel, but it never did.
