Dumas’ epic tale of suffering and retribution, inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment, was a huge popular success when it was first serialized in the 1840s.

Hello, Hello! I believe there are two others that wanted to join us. But for now, you want to discuss our goals for every week with this book?

The Count of Monte Cristo is made up of 117 chapters of roughly equal size (since it was originally serialized), so we could probably read it pretty fast all things considering!

Sure! I don't know how much I can read right now because I have to defend my thesis in a couple of days, but after that, I have more time.

Should we read up to chapter 10 by 17-18? Which is almost 90 pages. Or would you prefer lowering it to chapter 5?

Okay, I reached chapter 10 today and so far I'm really enjoying it!
I'll put my thoughts in the spoiler tags, just in case.

(view spoiler)[So, at first I was kind of confused since Dumas has a weird habit of writing two conversations at the same time. I'm talking about the moment Caderousse visits Dantès. They're talking and suddenly they refer to a previous conversation between Caderousse and Danglars. Took me a few times but I got the hang of it haha. Same with addressing the reader though. It was a bit weird and sort of distracted me. (hide spoiler)]

My favourite moment is probably in chapter three!
