I recall reading a book a few years ago that I believe came out AFTER Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation that recounted the non-fictional adventures of a few avid grammarians that went on a spree correcting signage across America.

At one point they ran afoul of the law and pointed out that they'd been accused of violating public statues (sic)

I'm having an extended senior moment though and can't recall the name.
