Stella 🍉 | 369 comments @amelie I get that! Personally I have to really outline (like EVERYTHING) because it gives me points to go off of and helps me direct the story

Shelley Burbank | 67 comments I am a writer and have been at it for a LONG time. I'm happy to answer questions or give pointers. One thing I like to do is use pictures, photos, and songs as writing prompts!

In fact, I'm going to be writing a flash fiction (500-1000 words) short story prompted by a Taylor song once I figure out exactly which one I want to use.

So listen to the song and what kind of story comes to mind? Start taking notes, name the characters, what is their conflict? What do they do about it? What happens next? How is it resolved? Write it down! It's easier to write a messy first draft and then fix it than try to make it perfect the first time around. Hope this helps!

Shelley Burbank | 67 comments I will add one thing, when I talk about using something as a prompt that means you come up with YOUR OWN story but maybe the song or art gave you an idea for that story. You shouldn't take a song (like no body no crime) and write that exact story. Because that's the songwriter's story. BUT you might think of a situation where a person is blamed for something she didn't do and she has to prove her innocence. Or maybe it's just the image of a girl driving a boat...and she runs into another boat...with a cute guy driving it...but they come from two different worlds....you get the idea.

Bailey(not super active lol) | 733 comments I get that! What helps me write a short story is actually music , and a book , I have notes in my google docs of which song helped me imagine that scene .

yeahh same I wrote EVERYTHING about my 2 main characters down even their fav food and other little details like that :) I got the names, the age, the birthdays, the eye colors (you get the point) and the idea but I have no idea how to start writing at all..

Annie | 142 comments I think the best advice I can give is to just start, it might not be amazing or perfect but it’s not supposed to cause it’s just going to be a first draft anyway.

gurlie, if you have an iPad it’s good enough, you don’t need a laptop or a computer.

ʀᴏᴄʜɪ (ʜɪᴀᴛᴜs) ♡ (imeancamadarie) | 179 comments I have an idea… well, a lot of ideas, actually. Is just that I start one and never finish it.
Here are some ideas:
The journal of someone
Someone who one day discovered it’s from the royal
Someone with power (I know, so original)
A love story, they finish because is the distance. They both still love each other, but never come back
Someone who pass through the second (or first) world war
