Jen is a perfectly ordinary college student spending a semester on a cruise ship visiting Latin America and South America. She has no idea how much her life is going to change when she witnesses something that seems to be impossible. She ends up discovering a lot about herself, making a group of new and unusual friends, and dealing with a psychopathic vampire.
This is a fun, undemanding, YA-style urban fantasy. The characters are well drawn, there's a gentle romance (nothing sizzling) and the story is good enough to be entertaining. The darker elements aren't intense. There's some repetition in the dialogue, but it's generally smoothly written. If I happen to see the others in the series, I'd happily read them.
