A couple of chapters to go, busy weekend plus a tight ARC deadline interrupted me. And I see what everyone meant about Miss Peavey, she's hilarious. I'm picturing her as Barbara Stanwyck mainly because of her role in "The Lady Eve".

I don't know who Barbara Stanwyck is (obvs!) but I just love the way PGW takes a version of the droopy, dreamy girl who we've met in Jeeves ('dew is fairies teardrops') and gives her such a fantastic twist.
This definitely turned into a variation on a caper, particularly the showdown towards the end. I enjoyed the whole thing immensely, thanks Nigey.
I finally finished. It just takes me a long time to plow through that dense, difficult Wodehouse prose. Simply exhaustingMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A nice reminder of how much I enjoyed this over the summer. I think I've read all the Jeeves books, but this was my first visit to Blandings.

Alwynne, that's fascinating about Caspary's Laura, another book whose plot relies on narrative U-turns.
I love this idea of comedy and crime fiction feeding off each other: maybe the tropes of the 'caper' are some of the connectors?
