SOLVED. Adult Sci-Fi. Futuristic space combat, multi person "POV" series of books.

Hello all,

I hope people can help me out, I read a series of books a few years ago that now, for the life of me, I can not remember the title. To make matters worse, I red the Star Carrier series around the same time, and I know I mixed some of the details up.

What I (think) I remember is this:
The series follows a group of military members on a large rather self-contained ship. It is a carrier (think aircraft carrier IN SPACE), but it also has traditional weapons. It starts out with a primarily human crew but brings in new alien races as the humans win them over. The book does not follow one character but rather follows several through each event from the point of view (I have come to understand that this type of story is a trope in syfy books).

I believe in the begging the ships were capable of faster the light travel, and then this was disabled and then had to use a jump gate system (Maynor be called that).

The only character I remember is the trainer and leader of the fighter pilots, who is called something like "Biskey" although I am almost certainly spelling that wrong. She is from an alien race that is birdlike in appearance and thinking.

I also seem to remember a character that needs a water filled environment and must be in a special suit to exist outside her homeworld, and is castout or shunned by her people for even wanting to leave her world.

In the beginning, one of the COs had three legs, but I could be wrong and from another book.

I am not sure if this will help, but the cover art is of the main ship, and it has a launch bay vissable and is very large. I want to say some kind of virus or some such destroyed or disabled all newer ships, but this one was just about to be decommissioned, so it did not have the upgrades that were affected.
