Although I was enjoying the beginning of the book, I changed my mind about finishing the book. I knew something happens that changes Amir and Hassans’ lives but did not know the event until one of my patient’s told me spoiler (view spoiler)
:( I think I just read what that event was. It's heartbreaking.
I do hope more people join in so I can share my thoughts as I read. Regardless, I'll be sure to share my thoughts in a review when I'm done.

I added the spoiler function. Is there a link where others can read it? Or is it just omitted. I think for a discussion maybe we should have two sections one for spoilers and the other for no spoilers. Any thoughts?

one of the most heartbreaking books I've read
It IS so heartbreaking. I had no idea how heartbreaking it is! I seem to be reading it in big chunks and then setting it aside for a few days. While the writing is amazing, the story is very hard to digest. I need time to process all of the emotion it dredges up. I had no idea it would take me this long to get through it on an emotional level.

Did you do < spoiler > text for your spoiler goes here < / spoiler > but take out all of the spaces between all of the coding and the word spoiler. If you do it right you should be able to click on the link and see what the spoiler says (view spoiler)
I'm working through my third reading of this book. Read it originally a few years ago in paperback. Last year, I found it as a graphic novel adaptation. And now I'm listening as an audiobook, and the author does a great job narrating.Khaled Hosseini has become one of my favorite authors, and if you like this one I recommend his others, or similar concept books like The Beekeeper of Aleppo or The Map of Salt and Stars.
I'm still working through this. I'm not marking my progress on goodreads because I keep thinking I'll get back to it later in the day/evening but then get sidetracked with other projects or chores. But I'm about halfway now. I'm hoping to make some real progress with it this weekend. One thing this book does is make me wish I knew more about Afghanistan and the region. So much has happened there in the recent past that the places, religions, etc., all sound familiar to me but I want to know more about the history beyond what I've heard in the news over the past few decades. I feel terrible that I never truly envisioned the people attempting to live their daily lives behind all the places, titles, names that I heard.

I do have A Thousand Splendid Suns on my shelf to read soon. I'll be sure to look into the other two books you mentioned as well. I really do feel compelled to read more books like this.
I'd love to recommend To Keep the Sun Alive by Rabeah Ghaffari. It's about a family in Iran right at the onset of the 1979 revolution. I learned a lot while reading that book as well - and experienced about as many mixed emotions while reading it.

Where has this month gone? I'm experiencing a bit of a lull in my reading. I know that will happen from time to time. But it doesn't mean I have to like it. 🙃
Early days still, but I am enjoying it thusfar.
I finished reading The Kite Runner yesterday evening. I feel like I've just finished a month-long emotional marathon. It was a wonderfully written book, and I feel an important story to tell. But my emotions are very raw after reading it. I'm such an empathetic reader. I feel every last emotion the characters go through. This book just about broke me.
I read The Kite Runner and I will say, it definitely took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. If you haven’t read this, please be prepared to feel so many powerful emotions all throughout the book.
I agree with Theresa; it’s heartbreaking. Why do these kinds of things happen to people who really can’t defend themselves? Not looking forward to reading any more of it.
I haven’t read this one yet but I really need to. He is an incredibly talented author
