Pat Cody | 160 comments I had read a previous book with Cross as the DS, and I found him just as annoying to read about in The Cyclist as before. A character without the usual emotions and understanding of relationships is difficult to relate to. I also find it unbelievable that his lack of understanding of these tools in his life would make him able to use them to solve murders that are based on emotions and relationships. I don't believe he could practice in his mind what he can't practice in everyday life to resolve murders and arrive at the culprit.

Beth Stewart | 644 comments I enjoyed this character and the situations he creates with his social lack of grace. I think he is able to solve murders because he is a detail-oriented puzzler who confront issues without emotional baggage.

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments Like Pat, I found the first book difficult to get into, and really didn't like it. I may get round to trying this one, but don't hold your breath. I'm only just having a stab at one of last month's.

Pat Cody | 160 comments The second one was a better read, Christina.

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments Just made a start - and the writing style is... not to my taste. And I'm wondering if I don't like Cross because he's too much like me?????

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments Anyway, what a rubbish conclusion. Not all the options for dealing with a disappearing husband were considered by the 'quirky' detective. Or the author who failed to do full research - or maybe has never tried to build a family tree...

Two stars.
