In my book trigger jersey was a regular teenage boy in high school who was involved in school sports and had lots of friends because of the sports he did, but one day he wakes up at Carters brain injury center and he can’t remember why his best friend Todd is angry with him, why his girlfriend left, or whether he shot himself. Throughout the book he goes on this challenging journey trying to figure out who he is and who he used to be, but because of what happened to him he suffers from brain damage, he tends to repeat words that other people say like a parrot. Once he arrived home from the rehabilitation center, he tries to immediately connect back to his best friend but is forcefully rejected by him and is told to stay away from his family, but Todd’s younger sister leza plays a big role in jerseys journey, and she decides to help him get himself and his family back to “normal”. Nothing was the same after that incident.
Overall, I thought this book was a really good read because it really explains all the struggle he goes through and why he goes through it. I think what made this book great was that the author really goes into detail on how the brain damage really affects him and his family (his parents are falling apart and jersey being the way he is really is not helping them), the author really showed how badly it messed with his ability to speak and how his own friends became bullies to him. Towards the end of the book, you get to really see how badly jerseys mental health has gotten and some of it seemed very relatable with all these problems one has as a teen going through high school, jersey discovers the troubles of love in a terrible way, in which seems to bring his confidence even lower. Something I didn’t like in the book was the way he was with leza, there were times where it seemed like he was only using her to get more information on her brother. In the end I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
