In preparation for the YA winner group read for The Final Gambit (The Inheritance Games #3) in August, we'll be reading book#1 this month, and book #2 in July.

Book #1 in the series, nominee for Best YA in 2020, is The Inheritance Games
The Inheritance Games (The Inheritance Games, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why -- or even who Tobias Hawthorne is.

To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch -- and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a conwoman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

Rachel Poynter (rachiesue) | 62 comments My husband and I listened to the first book on a road trip and loved it. When we got back we immediately started the second one, but it wasn't the same. I don't know, there wasn't an element of mystery to me. I finished it but haven't made it to the third one. I'd like to know how it ends but not sure if I'm willing to put the time into it.

Cammy | 158 comments I found this one okay. I did enjoy the aspect of the scavenger hunt and trying to solve the riddles and clues, however I couldn’t get drawn into the story line.
