Edward Everett I am only one, duplicate quotes (Superlibrarian needed)

I was searching the Goodreads database for a quote by Edward Everett, and I noticed that there were numerous entries for one particular quote beginning with the words, "I am only one". Some entries had slight variations in punctuation or wording. Some entries were from other authors' works who were quoting Edward Everett outright and attributed the quote to him. Some entries even attributed the quote to a different Edward Everett. I'm not sure which entry, if any, is correct. Hi T.

1. There is a bug with combining quotes that loses some of the likes that goes back at least 10 years, so I'm reluctant to combine quotes with likes now.

2. I haven't gone through all your entries, but the first one has over 500 likes. This means you will need a Superlibrarian. I would suggest you edit your thread title to add the words Superlibrarian needed & see if a Super is prepared to work on these.

3 A Super would be more likely to work on this request if you number your entries & leave a line break between each one. It is very easy to lose track otherwise.

Thank you for the information. I understood when I posted this that it would be a large project, but even if nothing can be done at this time I felt that the issue should at least be brought to Goodreads attention. I'm still not sure how so many Goodreads users could upload the same quote to the site not realizing that it was already in the database, though I know from personal experience that the Goodreads search tools could use some intuitive upgrading.

I've asked about a ruling if we should combine quotes & risk losing members' likes, as that is deleting valid data which is a no no.

As far as how so many members could add variations - nowadays you are asked to check before adding a quote, but maybe in the early days you weren't. & some people may add quotes without checking.

It's too bad there's no way to send a mass notification to the Goodreads users who would be impacted by combining quotes and ask them to shift there Likes to another version of the quote.
