Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I'm putting the threads up a little early as I am going away for a few days.

So... is this anyone's first read?
How many times have you read it?
What format are you using this time?

Let the discussion begin!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ This book is a favourite of mine & I have probably read it around 60 times. This is my third read since I have been on Goodreads. I'm reading the same edition that appears in the header.

Jackie | 1730 comments It is also a favorite of mine and I have no idea how many times I have read it.
this time I am reading it on kindle, where the photo shows a woman I assume to be Kitty looking kind of ....droopy?

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments Not one of my favorites (I have a hard time with her young characters). First read sometime between 1966 and 1968, and then re-read a couple of times. It has been eons since I last picked it up.

However, I did want to post the cover to my first copy:

Not too bad for an Ace cover. Hero in the foreground, looking appropriately dressed, Sherry very distant in the background. Love the pink!

That cover is very...pink.

I forgot to mention - no spoilers in this thread or use spoiler tags. We don't want to spoil a first read for anyone. :)

Teresa | 2189 comments Haven't read this one in an age! Don't really remember a lot about it. I'll be reading an old Pan edition (if the eyes permit it)!

My second read, but I also once listen to the BBC short dramatization (I was lucky to find it when it was available).

I am reading the paper version, the same edition that appears in the header. I don't like it much, I don't see Hero on the cover, more likely it could be Isabella. But it isn't the worse I have seen ;-)

Not one of my favourite but I remember it was funny. Also, I remember the beginning and the ending scenes - which isn't obvious in my case ;-), so it was memorable to me too.

No time to waste, I am going out, to the garden to read the novel (we have a beautiful spring now).

One of my favourites, partly because it's so funny - (view spoiler) makes me laugh every time, even after all these years - and one of the first ones I read. I have and like best the Pan version, with Sherry and Hero sitting on the wall, but it's falling apart and I shall probably be reading the ex-library hardback, with rather a dull cover showing a lady looking out of a window.
I was supposed to be in hospital by now, having one of my knees replaced, where I wouldn't have had my copy with me, so I suppose in one way it's lucky the op was put off for a week.

Jackie | 1730 comments I'm only in chapter 3 but so far, every single scene is funny.

I expect I should stick to posting in the spoiler thread, however, all the comedy is character related so you can't talk about it without revealing things.

Jenny, I hope your surgery and recovery goes well. I do therapy and frequently work with people who have had joint replacements and I will suggest that post op ice can be very helpful and tends to be underutilized, at least in this country.

Thank you, that's very kind of you. Actually, they gave me ice packs for my knees while I was in for my last hip replacement, so they might very well do so again - I'd forgotten that.

Teresa | 2189 comments Not sure how I feel about it yet. So far Sherry doesn't strike me as a hero.

Yeah, he isn't the hero I love the most in Heyer's novels, but he is precious because of other reasons (I like to see his struggles and growing-up).

I’m with you on this one. Interestingly, even when I was the same age as Heyer’s ‘young things’ I never liked them and found their stories generally inane and uninteresting. I couldn’t like Sherry. At least I liked Freddy in Cotillion, but Sherry? No.

Julia (juliavd) | 68 comments I've read 34 of Heyer's books so far but not this one! So I'm definitely going to do this group read!

Enjoy!

Sheila (in LA) (sheila_in_la) | 401 comments I wasn't sure I'd have time to join the group read this month but I had an unexpected day off yesterday so finished it in two days. It was my third time reading it. I still love it.

I have the new Arrow paperback Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer

Second read was the Sourcebooks copy Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer

And the first read was this one that I picked up second-hand Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer which is now falling part and missing pages

The old Pan cover is lovely.
