Drace (dracenines) | 7565 comments Some of the various editions of the short story collection Parallel Hells by Leon Craig have issues that need to be corrected.

Hardcover Edition: Parallel Hells (ISBN 9781529371420)

- The description is missing formatting. It should read as follows:

In this deliciously strange debut collection, Leon Craig draws on folklore and gothic horror in refreshingly inventive ways to explore queer identity, love, power and the complicated nature of being human.

In the thirteen darkly audacious stories of Parallel Hells we meet a golem, made of clay, learning that its powers far exceed its Creator’s expectations; a ruined mansion which grants the secret wishes of a group of revellers and a notorious murderer who discovers her Viking husband is not what he seems.

Asta is an ancient being who feasts on the shame of contemporary Londoners, who now, beyond anything, wishes only to fit in with a group of friends they will long outlive. An Oxford historian, in bitter competition with the rest of her faculty members, discovers an ancient tome whose sinister contents might solve her problems. Livia orchestrates a Satanic mass to distract herself from a recently remembered trauma and two lovers must resolve their differences in order to defy a lethal curse.

International Paperback Edition: Parallel Hells: ISBN 9781529371444
[Note: I am referring to this as the International Paperback Edition because the same edition with the same ISBN is being released in different countries at different times.]

- Because the same edition is being given different release dates in different parts of the world, I asked the librarians how to handle this situation. I was told that the release date should be set to whichever one came earliest. As such, this edition's release date needs to be changed to the date that it came out in the UK: October 13, 2022.

- Because the paperback was first released in the UK, I am pulling information from Amazon UK and the UK publisher's website. I believe the description should be changed to the one from these websites, and should read as follows:
For fans of Daisy Johnson and Kirsty Logan, a gothic short story collection for winter nights from an emerging voice in British literary fiction

Irresistibly strange and inventive, Parallel Hells is a collection of dark and delightful stories that blends folklore and gothic horror with a contemporary twist.

A golem discovers its powers far exceed its Creator’s expectations. An ancient creature, who feasts on the shame of modern-day Londoners, struggles to fit in with friends they will long outlive. And an Oxford historian discovers an antique tome that may help her overcome her academic rivals.

In this deliciously macabre debut collection, Leon Craig explores queer identity, power, love and the painful complexities of being human in startling new ways.

UK Kindle Edition: Parallel Hells (ASIN B095RWGMLX)

- This edition has had its cover and description changed, but I am unsure how this sort of update to digital editions is handled on Goodreads. Please let me know the rules on what happens when book data changes, and I'll post information as required.

- The page count is incorrect and should be 174 pages.

Australian Paperback Edition: Parallel Hells (ISBN 9781529371741)

- The publisher is missing. It was published by Sceptre.

- The page count is missing. It has 224 pages.

- The publication date is missing. It was published May 31, 2022.

- The description should be the same as the one listed under the International Paperback Edition.

Unknown Kindle Edition: Parallel Hells (ASIN B096SRR2NC)

- I do not know what this Kindle edition is. When the ASIN is searched on Amazon, it takes you to a page for this edition, but it gives a "not available for purchase" message despite supposedly releasing in February 2022. I'm unsure how to proceed here, so please let me know if I should post the information that needs to be corrected despite the edition seeming to not exist.

Thanks to the librarians for any and all help with this.

Liralen | 8224 comments Mostly done.

- ISBN 9781529371741 had a different page count and publication date on Amazon. Amazon rules (sigh) mostly supreme, so unless you have a better source, I've defaulted to that.

- If a cover has been changed (ASIN B095RWGMLX), an alternate cover edition can be created. Just link to the new cover, please!

- ASIN B096SRR2NC: There's not a lot we can do about works with ASINs that aren't findable via search—often that means that it's a version that was previously available on one Amazon site or another but now isn't. Either way, it's generally treated as a valid edition.

I pulled my information from Amazon Australia: https://www.amazon.com.au/Parallel-He...

Do standard Goodreads ACE rules apply to e-books as well? If you want to get technical, it's not a new edition. It's the publisher updating the metadata for an edition that already exists in order to bring it in line with other editions. If the standard rules apply I'll drop a link to Amazon UK so it can be updated.

Liralen | 8224 comments I'm pulling from Amazon Germany, which has an earlier date, for ISBN 9781529371741: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/1529...

ACEs aren't new editions. They're basically a Goodreads workaround because publishers sometimes change the cover on an existing edition, and GR users want to be able to shelve the version with whichever cover they read. Here's that ACE for you: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Couldn't access it since I was on mobile for most of yesterday, but the Australian publisher's website also lists May 31 2022 as the correct date (https://www.hachette.com.au/leon-crai...). Between Amazon and the publisher, is this enough to prove that May 31 is correct?

Also, I'm 99% certain that Amazon Germany's publication date is a typo. Given that the original hardcover edition of the book was published in its home country of the UK in February 2022, why would another country get a new edition in an entirely different format a whole month early?

Also, thank you for the clarification re: ACEs and digital editions.

Liralen | 8224 comments I've updated it and stuck in a change comment for any librarians who want to dive deeper.
