Sofie (sofiemv) | 3 comments i’m tryna get into annotating - does anyone have any tips? i see so many people on tiktok with a million different tabs and highlighters and i’m a bit overwhelmed

Mitsuri (nasaraspberry) | 66 comments hi there! so I annotate all the books I read. my annotating style isn't as complicated as most people. what I do is that I pick one color of a tab and use it throughout the book (some people pick different colors to highlight different aspects of the book). what I do is that if I read and like a part or find a part sad or game changing, then I tab that part. when I'm finished, I end up with a book annotated with one color and not so many tabs. I don't use highlighter but underline stuff with a pencil (I'm really wary of using pens or highlighters or anything that'll permanently mark the book). sometimes I leave sticky notes and label them "thoughts so far" throughout the book and I also leave small notes in pencil as well.

that's my personal method of annotating but I suggest you give it a shot and find the way that fits u best! some people love to go more into detail and yk pick different tabs and different highlighters and I understand cuz everyone is unique. good luck with annotating ur books and I hope u find ur style <3

Tara reads | 18 comments I'm new to annotation. my method is very simple. i just write my feelings or comment something. i tab whatever page or paragraph i like. that's it.

dj | 20 comments i use a black pen to underline things i like, or want to remember. i also have a key at the beginning of the book that i made so i know what color means what. so then next to the black underline i use a colored pen (depending on what “topic” i underlined) and take a note.

i also use colored tabs on pages i want to remember.

Michayla Johnston (michaylareads) | 19 comments I have recently developed an appreciation for annotating! I like to use: 1) a highlighter that does not bleed, 2) a black pen, 3) colored tabs, and 4) a pencil.

I use the highlighter to highlight sections (sometimes a sentence, sometimes more like a paragraph). I then go back over the highlighted section and underline or circle words or phrases that I feel like should be emphasized. I put a tab in on that page and usually label it with a word or two to help me remember what the section is about. Then if I want to write in my thoughts/insights I do this with a pencil, so I can modify or erase if necessary.

When I'm done reading a book, I always love to go back through afterwards and only read the annotations. It helps me to find closure with a book (lol weird but true). It also then helps me with my book journaling, where I can write down quotes I loved or thoughts I had while reading a specific book. I would love to hear any tips anyone else has!
