How do you find out about new books? Is it from friends, social media, libraries, Goodreads, or somewhere else?

message 2: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (djinnia) | 657 comments I work at the public library as a children librarian. I order for all the children sections from board books to ya, including the manga and light novel sections. So I see a lot of new books.

I also see a lot of newsletters from publishers.

Fantasticfiction.com is also a great source.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Mostly from Podcasts, Goodreads, and the library new books shelf.

message 4: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2088 comments I find new books through mentions here on Goodreads, or browsing the new books at the library/on OverDrive. Once in a blue moon I find one in the Canadian media.

message 5: by Denise (new)

Denise | 524 comments Bookstores, book reviews, Shelf Awareness newsletter, a weekly newsletter from a small author-events business near my home, Goodreads.

message 6: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1337 comments Netgalley, friends recommendations and Goodreads (this group mostly!!).

message 7: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments Mostly from the Goodreads groups I belong to. I also browse the online libraries I am part of, CBC lists, and a news letter from TOR books.

message 8: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan J | 9 comments I read a lot from the same authors, so generally I know when they have a new book coming out! Otherwise I get recs from a range of sources. One of my favourite authors is also a prolific reviewer so I pick a lot up from her, and I follow a few other reviewers on Goodreads who tend to make good recommendations!

I get ideas from Goodreads and my GR friends, also real-life friends. I also get emails from Book Bub, Book Riot, Literary Hub, and a couple of local bookstores. I subscribe to an excellent magazine called Bookmarks
https://www.bookmarksmagazine.com/
And I pick up the book fliers at libraries and independent bookstores.

This explains why I always have hundreds of books in the To Be Read Someday category - books I don't own but think I might like.

Goodreads and Net Galley
Also I do read the NY Times book reviews
And there's a blog I love Go Fug Yourself (https://www.gofugyourself.com/) and they do a "what are you reading" post every few months that is always full of great recommendations.

message 11: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1497 comments All the above. I also ask people what they are reading.

message 12: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 678 comments New books as in newly published, I see browsing on GR and in group posts, and on Amazon (I have plenty of First Reads that I still haven't read!)
New to me books I find browsing at the library.

I don't usually read newly published books because almost all of my books come from the library and the hot books have long waits.

message 13: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 566 comments Same as above! And I often go back through the older Goodreads Choice Awards list to see if there is anything that suits my mood (or prompt)

message 14: by Bana AZ (new)

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 836 comments Goodreads and Booktube. If I want something really recent, I look at BOTM.

Finding a booktuber with a similar taste as me really helps my reading goals!

message 15: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1489 comments Yes - all of the above. :) I get recommendations from GR groups - I've gotten many from here. I browse through bookstores. My daughter gives me lots of recommendations, friends, colleagues, strangers, literally anyone who will talk books with me! :) I sometimes see suggestions on Instagram or Facebook. Anything is fair game! :)
