Rosina (rosinarowantree) | 411 comments It's exciting - but I have an each-way bet on three of the top four ...

ie, I already have copies.

Leadon Hill and Psmith now on 4 apiece... you have till tomorrow to vote or change your vote!

David | 141 comments Gods of Jade and Shadow is up there with three votes now. Things are getting interesting :)

3-way tie will be a little complicated. I am, though, pleased that Richmal Crompton got some votes. I loved Just William as a child and would like to read some of her adult novels.

I loved Just William too, and I'm sure we're not alone in this group. I have fond memories of when he makes soup with his older sister's posh lemon-shaped/fragranced soaps!

I put myself on the waitlist at the library for Leadon Hill - trying to cut down on buying books.

I'm surprised it's not on Project Gutenberg - however, Leave it to Psmith is: www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60067

Some of the William books are also on Gutenberg if anyone fancies some childhood nostalgia :)

I recently read Family Roundabout
by her, which was excellent. It was similar to a Dorothy Whipple novel. A real page turner.

Good to hear, Tania.

Oh, William's poor, long-suffering sister. I loved the way young men would always call and he'd always ruin everything for her.

Rosina (rosinarowantree) | 411 comments Deadlock broken (for a short while, at least)

We did agree to read Psmith as a buddy read, after all!

Thanks Rosina

Yes indeed, with less than 24 hours left to go it looks as though Leadon Hill will be our choice...

Leadon Hill - 6 votes, 37.5%
Leave It to Psmith (Psmith, #4) - 5 votes, 31.3%
Gods of Jade and Shadow - 3 votes, 18.8%

If that's what happens let's do the Leave It to Psmith buddy read at the same time, so both would be scheduled for August 2023. Remember you can contribute before and after

Sounds like a win-win, Nigeyb.

I am surprised - but pleased - at the interest in Richmal Crompton :)

Yes, Psmith sounds suitably light and summery for August :)

Sonia Johnson | 274 comments Looks perfect, a group read of Leadon Hall and a buddy read of Psmith.

Still a dead heat with an hour to go

Leadon Hill - 6 votes, 35.3%
Leave It to Psmith (Psmith, #4) - 6 votes, 35.3%

We'll do Leadon Hill as the group read and Leave It to Psmith as a buddy - and all in August 2023

What a time to be alive

At the last moment Leadon Hill got an extra vote so is the winner...

Leadon Hill - 7 votes, 38.9%
Leave It to Psmith (Psmith, #4) - 6 votes, 33.3%

Thanks so much to you all. A really interesting pre-poll discussion, an array of fabulous nominations, and a couple of interesting books to read and debate in August 2023

Take a bow RTTC 👏🏼

Interestingly it's £3 to order from my library, or rather SELMS, which is the broader library network, and £3.99 to buy on Kindle, so hardly seems worth trying to get a library copy

It's so wonderful to see so many older books being republished on kindle. I was holding off, just in case, but have downloaded my copy now.

Thanks for your hard work with the vote, as always, Nigeyb.

Ha, my library hasn't started charging *yet* - £3 seems extortionate considering, as you say, the price of Kindle books. You'd have thought they'd be encouraging library usage.

And yes, thanks for your usual efficiency, Nigeyb!
