Dobby (dobby0390) | 7859 comments Jaclyn, since I can't access the "Amazon DESTROYED the database" thread, I'm posting this example of erroneous bot behavior here.

Two different authors: Jaycee Clark and Phillipa Nefri Clark

Each wrote a book called Deadly Secrets:

Jaycee Clark:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Phillipa Nefri Clark:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

The amazon_com bot created these 8 editions of Phillipa's book, placing them with Jaycee's books:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Six of the books have the correct author name (Phillipa); two of them have the wrong author name (Jaycee).

I have left these records separate from the others until Support can look at them.

I only researched the ASIN/ISBN identifiers on the first record (ISBN 9784824151377) to verify whether they match the authors, covers, and descriptions of the books to which they are attached.

Jaclyn, if you'll let me know when you have the information you need from these examples, I'll finish the cleanup and combine the records.

Thanks Dobby. I've reported this to the relevant team, but they might still want to have a look at the pages. I'll let you know when they're done.

Thanks for letting me know!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Jaclyn, this bot behavior is not uncommon.

How can we convince the developers that the bot should stop doing things like combine, creating new multi-space author records, and changes to existing records?

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7859 comments Jaclyn, the "Goodreads" user account combined those editions I'd separated out:

https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/combin...

Was that on purpose, or did someone misunderstand what's going on? My LibNotes are still in place.

ETA: The records with the wrong author name were not corrected before the combine was done. I cannot begin to express my level of frustration with this.

The team was finished investigating and wanted to good-intentionally save Librarians the trouble of fixing the entries. Sorry it was counterproductive in this case. So sorry Dobby! Let me know if I can help with any of those edits.

Liralen | 8223 comments I've lost track of where we're supposed to be reporting issues (and which sorts), sorry. Here's another one: among the various sorts of chaos the bot has created for Ciao Bella, it's decided that a book called Plato's Children is part of it: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

I know this isn't the first of this sort of issue that we've seen, but mentioning because it's still ongoing as of the 23rd.

Thanks for the report Liralen.

Closing this thread as the original one is alive again!
