I can't get into this book at all. Any help/suggestions? I've heard the ending's good, but it sounds like it's all just romance. :( Does anything else happen?

Well, it is a romance with some tragedy and suspense/mystery. I dont wanna tell you what exactly happens cause it may ruin it for you. Have you seen any of the movie adaptions?
What place are you up to? Many things do happen but, like Nesha, I don't want to give anything away. Often a film or TV adaption can help people get into the feeling of something but it might also ruin some of the surprise of the book.Do you know what it is that is putting you off, because that might make it easier to offer some suggestions. Is it the romance that is putting you off or the characters or the language or writing style? It is, mainly, a romance so I suppose if you're not into that sort of thing at all then this book probably not the best for you.

I haven't. I know a little of what's supposed to happen, but not much.

Mmm... I think I made it to chapter 3? Possibly. :P I think that it's mostly the writing style and the lack of action. I don't mind romance too much, I think it just reminds me too much of *cough* Moby Dick.

Life is too short to read books you don't like. The universe is full of other books, some that you will enjoy.

The book you're referring to is relentless and drags a bit. It contains some thought-provoking dialogue and is illustrious for portraying a headstrong woman due to it being written in the 1800's. There is some mystery around the romance, along with obstacles of Jane's. Although there is not romance in a few chunks of it, it happens to be the main premise. I'm sure you know that this "romance" is a more sophisticated version than you'd find in modern fiction. I share your feelings with this book. To appreciate Jane Eyre, I think you must be able to relate to its emotions. If you can't, you will find it relentless, boring, and no-one will be able to help you. I was seized by the first line and it never let go. It is not like Moby Dick, as Moby Dick features chapters of irrelevant prose about the whaling industry. You will not find such excursions in Jane Eyre.
