A fantasy trilogy, possibly by a female author with I believe a medieval style setting. Early on in the first novel the main protagonist is cursed to not be able to die. Instead when he is slain he takes over his killer's body who die instead. He is still the same character but now within the guise of the new body people are unaware and he must navigate the story as several characters. Possibly waring nations and battles, love interest, but I know these are very generic for fantasy novels... One of the names of his killers maybe begins with Z.

I believe I read this around 2003, the cover page for the first novel was white with a castle possibly.

All help appreciated but I'm not hopeful with my limited recollection.
