I suspected Tucker, the loan officer and the bank president. All of them. I was sure from the beginning that there was something wrong with the loan. I never believed Kate's mother would have put Kate's company in jeopardy. The house - yes. Kate's company - NO!
I didn't really think about the possibility of someone forging Kate's mother's signature on the loan papers and adding information to them. It didn't cross my mind.
I didn't want to believe her mother put Kate's company up for collateral, but I didn't think the bank officials were involved with a swindle. For some reason, I like to believe that small town banks are more community minded. I should have known better. I did think that Tucker may have a hand in it because he had all the bills and he knew the income.
I never had much feeling about what Kate's mom had done and I think that's because Kate didn't seem to have much feeling about it. You could tell she was probably upset underneath but she barely showed it and always made reasonable excuses for it. So when it turned out Kate's mom hadn't done it, I had no real feelings one way or the other, because I never felt strongly about it in the first place. Hopefully that makes sense.
