It's basically the same with audiobooks, you have to translate your progress.
Personally I never post progress because then I feel stupid if I don't finish the book, and sometimes GR sends me annoying reminders about it!
I track progress for various reasons and have never had reminders from GR, even on ones that don't progress for weeks or months. I also find tracking handy to find my place again quickly in a book when the book mark has fallen out or ebook jumped ahead or back, and I have not read in a few days.% tracking works really well.
