Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments Terry Pratchett, author of over 40 books in the Discworld series, as well as several other non-Discworld books, has passed away at 66. Sir Terry was diagnosed in 2007 with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease known as Posterior Cortical Atrophy. He died at home with his family and cat by his side.

There are a number of loving tributes posted around the web. These are but a few:

Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments Like many readers, I knew this was coming and dreaded it, but the news still hit me very hard today. I've teared up again posting these links. I really adore him, both for his work as an author and his humor, wisdom and generosity of spirit as a person. He will be missed.

I saw this first thing yesterday morning and, while expected, it was still a gut punch. I came to Discworld late, after many of my book group friends recommended his books. I have not read them all yet, so I have that pleasure awaiting me.

His wry sense of humor and brilliant way of poking fun at us and our world were unique. I laugh out loud and often tear up when I read his books--they are so true!

His advocacy for people with dementia was laudable. I have 2 family members dealing with Alzheimer's disease, and I so appreciated his perspective on his condition and his willingness to speak out.

Richard Dowling This was very sad news, but he left behind a body of work which will give joy for generations to come.

I fondly remember coming across "The Colour of Magic" in my local library and being blown away by the cover, (in the UK he had wonderful cover artwork-don't know if it was the same in the US) and then taking it home to read it and being even more mindblown!
