The Chance (Thunder Point #4), by Robyn Carr [Start Date: April 06, 2015]
ShoSho wrote: "We can read this together (before the end of month ),hmmm?"Okay, we can try, ShoSho. Movers will be coming by end of month.
I'm enjoying this book a lot! When Laine's dad did the weird phone call thing, I started thinking dementia. It's possible given his age, and his anger and denial could easily be a part of it. When she finally shared what was said during the Christmas argument I thought that Senior has control issues (like Laine) and is afraid she'll be hurt. Apparently he's not good at expressing emotions...I'm glad she's finally making female friends, who are just friends. And that she's found a way to relate to her sister-in-law. Laine was so jealous of her, and didn't need to be. It's also good that she shared her visit to the compound with Eric. She's finally letting someone in a bit.
And I'm waiting to see who will take in Justin and his brothers. And for Laine to find his dad. What do you think?

Oh and you're right about Laine's dad!! ; )
Silvia, I agree. She's really letting him in and trusting him. And I wondered if her dad would also go all snobby on Eric as well.
Silvia, I'm with you on the Al and Laine/Eric outcomes. I'm just not sure if they'll happen in this book. Look at how long it took for Cooper and Sarah to finally settle together.
Lara wrote: "Silvia, I'm with you on the Al and Laine/Eric outcomes. I'm just not sure if they'll happen in this book. Look at how long it took for Cooper and Sarah to finally settle together."I agree with you Lara, it might take a while! Chapter 14 is starting out very interesting!
Ok, I've got about 30 pages to go and I think there's more than meets the eye here wrt Al. (view spoiler)I feel so sorry for Ray Anne too! But there's more than meets the eye here, I'm repeating myself!....I hope!!
I'm making a prediction here but I think Carrie is going finding a sweetie sometime soon, I mean after all, Lou is married, and I still think Al and Ray Anne are getting together, so she needs someone too! Wouldn't it be funny and interesting if it turns to be Rawley?!
Finished! Ok, so some of things I predicted in my spoiler were wrong but I'm happy with the way things were left, makes me anxious to read the next book! I really enjoyed this one! ; )
Jonetta wrote: "I really enjoyed this one, too. Here's my review."I was very tempted to read book 5 since I have it. I want the author to give Rawley a woman!

alright then, I am going to download it :D
you know I have been going in blind without reading the blurb...I think I should read the blurb for the next books so I can see which book is Rawley's
I've been going in blind, too, since the second book. Having read them all to date, you're not going to see anything in the blurbs.
Oh, so there is going to be a Rawley book, so maybe Carrie is going to get a love interest! Hope so!
I finished last night too late to post. This book was a quicker read than the others, I think. I'm pleased, and not surprised with the solution for Senior. It was nice to get to spend time with some of the other characters a bit as well. Which is funny to say as I normally don't like switching perspectives. I'm still surprised they didn't tap Laine to find Justin's dad. Perhaps that's for another book. And I'm glad Al came to his senses. So, not many surprises, but a rather pleasant read.

Ezi, I was thinking they could get the back child support and Justin could have some closure. Justin really needs a breather.
Lara wrote: "Ezi, I was thinking they could get the back child support and Justin could have some closure. Justin really needs a breather."I think Al will help. If he ran off because he couldn't deal with his wife's illness. As they are dealing with that and grieving their home life, seeing him will make them madder
ShoSho wrote: "Is it angsty or is there humor? Is it a light read ?"I thought this one was just like all the other books in this series. In fact, a little lighter than the prior book since that cult leader was disturbed and shooting folks
I agree. This one was lighter. There are serious events, but they aren't overly angsty and dramatic.
Ezinwanyi~the Impish Angel wrote: "Are we reading book 5 this month?????"No in May! Let us catch up Ezi ;)
Ok what happened was I thought I would read a few pages and then I'll comment but then I did a few things and read a few pages in between and suddenly I was on chapter 18. I wonder how that happened . I just read the part where Justin's brother had the black eye and they decided not to do anything about it. They shouldn't let bullies get away with what they do . I hope they change their mind and make a complaint.
I finished!!! I don't know how :D I really k led it , I'll come back with more thoughts in the morning.
@ Lara Re your comments :1. I'm not sure if Laine is questioning her job with the FBI because she is still traumatized from her last case, if she's wondering if they'll ever let her out in the field again, or if she's really uncertain if that's the life she wants. I'm also not sure about her reasons for hiding being with the FBI. They seemed weak to me.
I think she got just tired of tension. In Robyn Carr book the characters usually decide to leave their high paying high tension jobs to settle either for unemployment or some laid back low paying job !!! ;) I wish it was possible in RL!
I thought lying about her real job didn't make sense .
2. I wish I had such an awesome view as Laine's rental. So many of the books I read set on the West Coast have them.
Me too
3. Eric sure is a beta hero. So unwilling to act on his attraction. I thought the scene when Laine asked him out was funny. She was like the alpha male charging in and saying "We both find each other attractive. What's the problem?" But then I started thinking, and a lot of the men in this series are beta heroes.
I love beta heroes and I really liked Laine in this book .
4. Laine sure does like to hide what she knows. And I thought she completely overreacted to finding out that Eric is a father. Especially when she learned he only knew that for the past year. It's not like he has little children at home who would challenge her for precedence in the relationship. She does seem to want to be the center of someone's affection.
Yes she overreacted , they had gone out only once and she should have given him time to talk about in his own time .
6. And it's so refreshing that they don't have essentially the same traumatizing events in their backgrounds! I've been getting tired of romances where the hero and heroine are like secret twins since they have exactly the same issues to deal with.
Yess I agree It was refreshing .
8. Laine was rather resistant to being questioned when she all but interrogated Eric about having a child that wasn't a secret. And she's making justifications for keeping secrets that aren't secrets.
I still don't understand why she kept her job a secret even after she started dating Eric ?!
And finally, I thought the scene with Rawley was sweet. I also miss getting some of the stories from other characters.
Not much Rawley in this book but that scene was sweet
I absolutely loved Ray Ann's story , at the start of the series she was almost a negative character but we started to to know her better and now I really like her.
ShoSho wrote: "I absolutely loved Ray Ann's story , at the start of the series she was almost a negative character but we started to to know her better and now I really like her."As do I! It was a nice surprise in this story.
