The Chance (Thunder Point #4), by Robyn Carr [Start Date: April 06, 2015]
Wait a minute... I read #2, or rather listened it it. I don't have it 'tagged' as read. Hmmm... I wonder how I could possible have forgotten to do so; I had NOTHING going on in April. LOL!
Lisa Kay wrote: "Gosh, now I can't remember when I read it. **sigh**"I hate when I do that. It's so frustrating.
I know. I hate when I do it, too. Especially, since I kid myself by telling myself that I'll remember. Ha!
I do the same thing! I know I won't forget when I started the book...then 3 weeks later I have no idea.
Sometimes I get into the book and then get distracted before tracking it. Usually I remember, but every so often I don't.
Jonetta wrote: "I use Goodreads to track my start and end when reading a book. Do you not use that feature?"Yes, but the past month has been crazy. I know, I know... all the more reason to use it. But, I was traveling with company. That's my excuse, anyway, and I'm sticking with it. :o)

I hate moving. My next move...Well I ain't moving
So, we haven't really set the structure for this discussion, but I've read the first third (chapters 1-7) and have these thoughts so far--1. I'm not sure if Laine is questioning her job with the FBI because she is still traumatized from her last case, if she's wondering if they'll ever let her out in the field again, or if she's really uncertain if that's the life she wants. I'm also not sure about her reasons for hiding being with the FBI. They seemed weak to me.
2. I wish I had such an awesome view as Laine's rental. So many of the books I read set on the West Coast have them.
3. Eric sure is a beta hero. So unwilling to act on his attraction. I thought the scene when Laine asked him out was funny. She was like the alpha male charging in and saying "We both find each other attractive. What's the problem?" But then I started thinking, and a lot of the men in this series are beta heroes.
4. Laine sure does like to hide what she knows. And I thought she completely overreacted to finding out that Eric is a father. Especially when she learned he only knew that for the past year. It's not like he has little children at home who would challenge her for precedence in the relationship. She does seem to want to be the center of someone's affection.
5. I was expecting that the whole FBI vs ex-con thing would be the conflict, but that isn't the case. Now I'm wondering what their mountain will be to overcome.
6. And it's so refreshing that they don't have essentially the same traumatizing events in their backgrounds! I've been getting tired of romances where the hero and heroine are like secret twins since they have exactly the same issues to deal with.
7. It seems a bit like love at first sight for Eric, and Laine sure is moving fast. What a second date! I'm not sure if they're moving too fast, or if they are both making up for lost time in their lives. I wonder if the speed will be a problem later on.
8. Laine was rather resistant to being questioned when she all but interrogated Eric about having a child that wasn't a secret. And she's making justifications for keeping secrets that aren't secrets.
9. So, Laine's twin fell fast and hard for his wife. It looks like Laine is like him that way. But, she seems a bit more self-centered than Eric-centered to me.
And finally, I thought the scene with Rawley was sweet. I also miss getting some of the stories from other characters.
Whew! That's enough for now ;-)
i just started an hour ago and I just LOVE the narrator. Her drawl is perfect for this series!!!I am glad to see Laine. I didn't read the blurb, but is Laine crushing on RAwley?
I'm just starting chapter 5 and really enjoying it! Laine is soooo forward but I guess she's just feeling like why beat around the bush, making up for lost time when she wasn't able to date being cooped up for 6 months in the cult's compound and then time off to recover from the wound. She saw what she wanted and went after it.And I love how Laine is handling himself. He didn't want to put too much on the table on the first date. I don't blame him, he's changed from the irresponsible 19 year old to a respected business owner and father. He wanted Laine to see him as he is now and not with any old baggage. I agree with him not telling Laine everything on the first date.
And to see Mac, Gina, and Eric interact is great. It's amusing to see Gina give Eric advice about dating.
I'll start in a few days ! I'm catching up on my buddy reads . First
(listening now)and then I have this one and
I know right? Maybe it's her FBI notifications, but she sure wasn't beating around the bush, huh?Go Lanie, ask him out then!
I think she will fit in well in this group.
Our little Devyn has gotten her confidence back!
@Silvia, I so agree with Eric not dumping his life history on the first date. That should make alarm bells ring, not the lack of baring one's soul. I thought Laine overreacted as a first date is supposed to be light and fun. Plus, (we know) he was planning to tell her about his past on the second date anyway.
Lara - I agree with you, plus Eric wasn't being deceptive, the whole town knows his past, and like you said he was going to lay it out on their second date. You're right too about alarms going off when someone dumps everything on you too soon! Kind of creepy when that happens too!
I guess she expected that he would have fit it into the conversation somehow, like "My daughter said something funny..." But, she hasn't been that much of his life until very recently, so it makes sense that he wouldn't. Not a big deal to me. Laine seems a bit high strung, I guess she really does need a break ;-)
I agree Laine expected too much from Eric on a first date. Yes, she's definitely wound a little tight but I like her. Him, too.
I am on chapter 4: Lanie is a bossy one. Very aggressive. I like that, but I want her to take a deep breath. you can tell she works around men because she has no concept of playing hard to get.
I wonder what her father's problem is!
Lisa Kay wrote: "Well, I hope I can catch up quickly. I did start #3 this morning and so far so good."you have a good excuse. you had to take care of your home!
Lisa Kay wrote: "Well, I hope I can catch up quickly. I did start #3 this morning and so far so good."We can read this together (before the end of month ),hmmm?

I'm just finishing chapter 8 and regarding her dad, it's weird! I'd be interested what you think! ; )
I am on chapter 10. Her dad is a tad douchy. I wish they would admit there is something else going here, not just the job.

I think he doesn't want to admit he was worried. He wants her to come crawling to him to settle their beef.

I feel for Justin! He's probably been(view spoiler)I agree with you, he's an amazing kid!
Laine just asked Eric if he would (view spoiler)I wonder how that going to figure into her relationship with her dad. It could go one of 2 ways I'm thinking, either (view spoiler) I hope it's the latter!

The Chance by Robyn Carr
With its breathtaking vistas and down-to-earth people, Thunder Point is the perfect place for FBI agent Laine Carrington to recuperate from a gunshot wound and contemplate her future. The locals embraced Laine as one of their own after she risked her life to save a young girl from a dangerous cult. Knowing her wounds go beyond the physical, Laine hopes she'll fit in for a while and find her true self in a town that feels safe. She may even learn to open her heart to others, something an undercover agent has little time to indulge.
Eric Gentry is also new to Thunder Point. Although he's a man with a dark past, he's determined to put down roots and get to know the daughter he only recently discovered. When Laine and Eric meet, their attraction is obvious to everyone. But while the law enforcement agent and the reformed criminal want to make things work, their differences may run too deep…unless they take a chance on each other and find that deep and mysterious bond that belongs to those who choose love over fear.
