Booknblues | 12144 comments The NYT noted that hats were important to 2 big events this past Saturday, The Coronation and The Kentucky Derby.

They had a quiz about it which I am gifting here. I'm not particularly good at it, but managed 12 out of 15 correct.

Booknblues | 12144 comments I am apparently not good at verifying images as I had to do 3 sets.

Once I got a few wrong, i was able to do better at sorting it. There were also a few background clues.

Altogether it was a fun quiz.

Theresa | 15655 comments I got 13 out of 15, and one of them I stupidly ignored a background clue or would have got 15. Not that I remember any but the last from watching. I just am apparently good at looking at entire image and picking up clues.

The white feathered number with woman in knee length red dress was one that was pure coin toss type guess, with least informative background. Got it wrong,of course.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12640 comments Haha! I watched neither, but my love of hat (on other people) and knowledge of what is usually worn where gave me 14/15!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12640 comments That is the one I got wrong too, Theresa

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) I got 14 out of 15 by guessing. LOL! Some of them, I could tell by the background. Didn't see much bright green grass at the coronation. LOL! The one that looked like a lamp shade cracked me up.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4823 comments I got 13 out of 15 but I don't know much about hats. I love pageantry so it was a great day for me. I watched both of them and cried like a baby when Cody's Wish won his race on the Derby Under Card.

Cody's Wish is named for Cody Dorman, a native of Richmond, Kentucky who was born with Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome. As a result of the syndrome, Dorman uses a wheelchair and communicates with a tablet. In 2018, while on a visit to Godolphin's Gainsborough Farm in Versailles sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Keeneland, Dorman met a young foal by Curlin who immediately interacted with Dorman and laid his head on Dorman's lap. The weanling would later be named Cody's Wish in Dorman's honor.

If you get a chance check out the internet video. It's just a lovely story.

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) We were watching when Cody's Wish won. It was a great story.

Me either and will definitely watch the YouTube video.

We had it on during that race, but it was muted. Still with his sister bursting into tears when the horse won, I knew there must be a story behind it. Even not listening to it, brought tears to my eyes.

Nothing like a good happy cry.

Robin P | 5797 comments The news about all the horses who had to be put down before the race kind of stood out for me. I know some of our members can't read books where animals are hurt and there are questions about whether these horses generally are being expected to perform in ways that are harmful.

I've been keeping that on my radar. I've been hearing more about it in recent years and wonder if this has always been the case or if something has changed so that more horses are being euthanized.

I learned more about horseracing when I read "Seabiscuit", and I wasn't impressed. Similar to the rodeo here in Calgary. Animals for entertainment I don't like.

(I'm sure the quiz is fun, however, and I'll probably have more time to look at it tomorrow!)
