SOLVED! Mystery/Thriller main character is a survivor of a kidnapping and has scars on her back, she helps solve a new missing persons case with help from an FBI agent who is the son of the agent who helped find her, SPOILER: at the end of the book she is caught by the bad guy and frees herself from handcuffs using a key she always keeps in her boot

There is a sequel where she has to find her previous kidnapper who has escaped from prison. He calls her Cricket.
The Edge of Normal in the Reeve LeClaire series by Carla Norton? Reviews for the second book, What Doesn't Kill Her, mention the "cricket" detail.
