A Basque woman by the name of Mari Baroja has been found dead in the local assisted living home. Lucien Connally, the former sheriff and close friend of Walt's, has close ties to the woman; they were married for about 45 minutes in the long ago past. Lucien pleads with
Walt to pursue the case and bring justice to his long-lost love Mari. Delving into Mari's past, Walt learns of a tragic life of abuse, murder and desperate measures taken. Mari's relatives are waiting to pounce as Mari owned valuable land that included mineral rights. Walt has more than enough suspects but only one will kill to keep the truth from being known.

I am really enjoying this series. I listened to the audio of this one read perfectly by George Guidall. His voice fits my imagining of a crusty old western sheriff and it really added to the story. I know I have quite a few more books to go but I am on my way!

I didn't realize that I had already read this one when I put it on my list but I enjoyed the audio all over again. There is a great deal of humor in the books that I truly appreciate especially the word play between Walt and Henry. Good stuff!
