Maybe you can bling up that great dress you bought on Navy Pier ... Those colors looked GREAT on you!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8412 comments Oh ... and I just noticed with my last roll I'm now on space # 56 so I've moved into first class! Of course, I don't even have the book from the library yet, so maybe I'll just stay in 2d class until the book actually arrives in my hot little hands.

There's a full array of kimonos, robes and lounge wear supplied by the wardrobe attendant who has a knack for fitting style and color to each arrival.

You have let CGI Tom slip completely out of control. He's banished back to Caboose and Baggage Car with warnings of total banishment if he doesn't shape up. Gnarly is keeping an eyeon him and reporting back.

The book I finished today was one I did not realize that I had read before when I added it to my list. I did listen to the audio again which I enjoyed once more. My review is the original with added information from the second reading. I hope I explained that correctly and that it is ok.

So long as you wrote like 4 additional sentences about the book, that's fine.

Hannah, your advantage is you can move ahead to the next title on your board that starts with the letter U. If you don't have a title remaining with the letter U, let me know, and I will continue to select random letters until one works.

OR, you can save this advantage for the future (but not the letter), and request a letter when you are ready to use it

message 81: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5735 comments I think some reviews are actually there, but GR is taking us to an error message. I see that happening with multiple links today. Very frustrating with any games or activities that are time sensitive! I actually sent a message to GR Help today about it. We already had the issue where people get an error message when posting, but the comment posts.

Maybe until this is resolved they can post a link to the review, here or on their list page.

I saw Joy's review posted twice, then a few minutes later got the 'not found' message, then just now it's only once and I could open it.

GR is having fits. I need to write and post a review though as I am in Clerk I don't have to do it before the roll, but what a PITA this week on GR has been. Yesterday it took me 3 tries before I was able to both post my weekly update and verify my post was there in another group.

It happened to me yesterday too. My link led to a dead end and I couldn’t open the review to read it. A couple hours later I was able to open them and they were both there.

Yesterday I only had problems with the review threads. I wonder if the book link in the review is part of the problem.

It's happening on posts without links as well. I've been fighting it since Wednesday night, and had other issues earlier in the week. Also, there have been periods where you can't log into GR at all - when that happened around midnight lst night, I thought they might have pulled the system down for a bit for repair. Now I think it's part of the same problem as it happened to me this morning too.

Anita - I don't have any books that start with the letter U on my board, so I would like to save this advantage and use it at a different time with a different letter. I'll make a note of this advantage on my Board.

Hannah | 3288 comments I would like my next roll (1), please.

Like many, my review has posted, but when you click on it, you get an error message. I've therefore copied and pasted my review below. Hopefully this is ok.

(Subdue) House of Rougeaux by Jenny Jaeckel – 4 Stars

I have had this book on my TBR since it came out, but it seems to be nearly completely unknown – just over 400 ratings for this hidden gem. This was a family saga spanning many years, following a family from their roots on Martinique in 1785 where they were enslaved to Philadelphia in the 1960s via Montreal. Whilst I enjoyed the whole book, I especially liked the most modern bit, focussing on the attempts to get an exemption from the draft due to poor eyesight, but this being overlooked for an African American man, and his subsequent decision to flee to Canada. Throughout the book the main thread was how racism impacted the different family members. The story did move back and forward in time, but having a family tree at the front of the book helped to keep the characters straight in my mind. Whilst I would love to read the sequel to this book, I’m just not sure how easy it would be to find.

message 91: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10073 comments I'm having the same issue as Hannah. My review is "posted" on PBT but it gives an error message if you try to view it, so here it is:

The King at the Edge of the World by Arthur Phillips - 4.5 stars

Protagonist Mahmoud Ezzedine is a doctor from the Ottoman Empire. In 1601 he travels to England as part of a diplomatic delegation. They visit Queen Elizabeth I and discuss trade. Though he wishes to return to his wife and child, he makes an error in judgment and must remain behind in England. He is “gifted” multiple times to high-ranking nobles, converts (for appearances) to Protestant Christianity, takes the name Matthew Thatcher, and learns the medicinal uses of English plants. He is eventually asked by the Queen’s spy master to determine whether James VI of Scotland is, in fact, Protestant, as he professes, or if he is still secretly Catholic. The goal is to ensure he is suitable to inherit the throne upon the death of Elizabeth I.

This is an entertaining and well-written historical fiction. It provides the interior thoughts of the main character, as he grapples with issues of identity and makes observations about the situation in England and Scotland from an outsider’s perspective. He is a Turk, brought up Muslim, converts to Protestant Christianity, and investigates the true faith of James whose mother (Mary Queen of Scots) was Catholic. The story combines elements of espionage, religion, and Elizabethan history. It takes time to become immersed in the flow of the story, but really hits its stride once all the pieces and parts are set in motion.

It is intricately plotted, and the reader will have fun fitting all the puzzle pieces together. There are some great characters here. Ezzedine is not a natural spy, and he falls victim multiple times to the deceitful schemes of others. He questions his courage and wonders how events would have unfolded if he had acted more courageously. It is an intelligent book that works on several levels. The period details are delightful. The ending is clever and intriguing. If you enjoy books set in the Elizabethan period, I definitely recommend this one.

4.5

I just have to write and post my last Clerk review, review and post my new board and read all those new rules. Back in a couple of hours.

Tom and the Cabanna Boys better have finished the deep clean of the Caboose, and have the welcome banners up and the Taco Buffet and Margarita Bar fully restocked as Cinco de Mayo is being celebrated through the entire weekend. I will be there as soon as I have my final massage in Royal Coach.
