Joanne is mostly right.

1. You may still save the additional moves as you did before
2. You may still use the additional move after your roll is revealed
3. One reward may be used per roll.

The main difference honestly is that we want you to add the move to a roll so there's ONE book that you are reading for a roll plus the additional move. And this is denoted on your roll journal as something like:

Date mm/dd/yy: Rolled a 4; moving 2 spaces ahead based on award from 4/25/23 for a total of 6. Read the book (title).

As opposed to say:

Date mm/dd/yy: Roll a 4. Read the book on 4.

Date mm/dd/yy: Move 10 spaces based on accumulated rewarded spaces and read that book.

We just want the extra space move to be associated with a roll and announced once you see what the roll is.

Otherwise the extra spaces could be accrued and just used to move wherever you want basically whenever you want, and that takes away too much of the random luck component of the game.

There should only be one award used per roll. My other concern is that people could accumulate a slew of extra moves and say roll a 3 and add 20 to it. The objective is to give players flexibility on what they read, but not to enable players to completely control exactly where they are moving and when they are moving it.

Joy, does that answer your questions adequately??

Theresa,

There's only one way we want you to use these saved moves after June 1st.

#1 is how we WANT you to use the saved move (singular, not plural).

#2 is what I don't want to be done. You must use the saved move with a roll and only one saved move at a time.

If this ends up being a huge deal for people for some reason I can't see, I'm open to hearing your input. But the intent was never to allow the entire activity to be gamed by accumulating awards and then using them to move exactly where one wants, when one wants, and to read the exact book one chooses.

Theresa | 15510 comments Got it. Though I see little chance of ever accumulating any extra moves. I think I have a natural genius for creating boards that never match tags. 🤣

I 100% agree that you used it with no ill intention or to win, but it opened my eyes to how those rolls could be used which is why I'm elaborating upon this rule now.

In your case, there was very little advantage, if any, achieved by your move. One could argue it just made you read an extra book.

It just drew the conceptual issue to my attention.

message 611: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15510 comments With more and more players leaving Clerk behind, entering the advanced boards, and trying to master the new rules, these kinds of clarifications are natural.

The Consolidated Gameboard says Pam is on #86 of the Porter Board. I would like to move her to #100 where she can enjoy the luxury of the Locomotive while getting fitted for her Engineer uniform. The mirrors there are so flattering!

Jen K | 3143 comments Okay, an opportunity to apply the clarified rule.

I rolled a 6 but accidentally already read that one. Choosing to use an earned move 2 spaces forward: 6+2 = 8, hopefully I documented correctly on board.

Also have a 5 and 6 for my last two roles so I will be reading from Nicole's Porter Board #16, Girls Burn Brighter

Just so you know all the options, you could also choose to read the book just before the book you landed on. Even if you read it accidentally outside the game, Anita said it qualifies.

I am going to add an earned roll of 2 spaces forward from 28/2/23 to this roll, so I will move forward a total of 4 spaces. I will make a note of this on my board.

That roll combined with the last one of 2 is 7 but I will stay on the one I'm on. It is one that fits the immigration tag, but this is the last day of May, I will not finish it until June, so will it count towards immigration or not?

I'm an administrator but I still can't manage to keep it altogether so I really appreciate all the work you have done with this challenge, so we can playfully whittle down our TBR.

Unfortunately, in accordance with Rule #5, it won't count. So if you want to read one of your other options, I would feel free,

5. If you read a book that fits the monthly tag, you will earn 3 participation points. You must finish and review the book during the month of the particular tag.

But will it still be eligible for getting a BONUS (like moving a few spaces or an extra roll) for some number of taggers?

Oh sorry! Yes, it will. You just have to land on the spot.

b) If you land on a book that has the same tag as the monthly tag, you will get an extra move in conjunction with any future roll:
5-25 taggers - move forward 1 space
25-50 taggers - move forward 2 spaces
50-100 taggers move forward 5 spaces
More than 100 taggers - roll two dice
This award must be noted on your tracking thread at the time you land on the book that earns it. The book does not need to be completed/reviewed in the month with the tag . . .this bonus is triggered when you land on the book.

Except .... Fran said she landed on the space in MAY, when the tag is "indigenous". It fits the JUNE tag "immigration" but was not landed on in June.

And Anita said"this bonus is triggered when you land on the book."

So I am basically out of luck. I should have waited a day to ask for a roll as I am not planning on reading it until June. :(

I suppose I will live without getting an extra move & it will be another book off the tbr.
