I've looked at Kinkos and it seems they only do booklets. Is that the type of place you're suggesting?
Try this site Tanja http://www.lulu.com/publish/books/?ci... they will publish anything for you. I have looked into it a few times to put my blog into a book form just for my family to have a hard copy of it. They have a lot of great options.
Tera, that looks interesting! I may have to do that route if I get author permission (might have to work with her husband on that part to be sneaky!)
LuLu looks great for another idea that I have IF these other options aren't a go due to requiring the author's permission to print first. HEE!Thank you everyone for all the input!
Just an FYI: You have the option to not put the book up for sale and get a "proof" copy on both Create Space and LuLu but if her e-book already has a upc/isbn #, I'm not sure you'll be able to use them. Definitely get the author's permission squared away though! It's definitely required.
Yeah. That's the biggest issue due to the upc/isbn #. That's great about Lulu having the option to not put the book for sale. I may do that with her other unpublished writing if I cannot work out the published works copyright issues.
Since you do need her permission, how about making her your own gift certificate of sorts? You can wrap up an inexpensive blank journal book (check the dollar stores or ebay) and fill the first page with a lovely note telling her your gift is to have her book printed. You can include the form the printing company requires. She will have a nice surprise to open and you can have her book created for her.

Another option would be to hire a book artist to bind the book for you by hand. :) If you only want one as a unique awesome gift, it would be a creative way to go about it. Though it could be expensive, depending upon how many pages and how you would want the cover to look (etc). The Coptic Binding technique is particularly beautiful and is a favorite of mine! Worth looking up on Google.
(I spent quite a bit of time in my last year of art school making books a few years back)
Tiffany, that's a WONDERFUL idea! I'll slip it into another book I'm going to give her. It may be a scrapbook-picture book I'll put together. So perfect! Thanks everyone! What awesome ideas! If there was more time, I'd shop around for a book artist but it's getting to crunch time. EEP!
SUPER EXCITED NOW!!

What I'd like to do for a friend this holiday season is turn her e-book into a hardbound book. How would someone go about this process?
I'm willing to explore the DIY option or pay someone to bind the printed pages for me.
This gift isn't going to be sold in any markets. It is solely a gift to grace her bookshelf instead of the electronic bookshelf.
Help?
