Bookcover/link: [* book:The Enforcer|17406217] by Nikki Worrell
Rating (1-5): ★★★1/2
Review: This is the first book in a new series around the San Diego Scorpians, a NHL Team. This was a good start to the series. I would have liked more hockey. I'm also not a big fan of "telling" about events rather than experiencing them. It felt like that happened too much in this book. I did enjoy the characters. The sex of hot. I will continue with the series though.

Also, weirdly, the Kindle edition cover photo that actually downloads with the book, doesn't have a tattoo on the arm. Obviously just Photoshopped on the original cover.

Book: Fever by Joan Swan
Rating: ★★★★

Review: This novel was a little bit romance, a little bit action, and a little bit mystery. I liked the way the characters developed from a very rocky beginning. It was great to see that the heroine didn't just accept all she was told, rather decided for herself what to believe based on the actions of the other characters.

It was also great to read about a hero that displayed all the alpha male characteristic we've come to expect in paranormal romance but wasn't an over confident so-and-so that would wanted to throw something at. His interactions with the heroine and other women showed a respect for women that was good to see.

The author also did a great job of introducing the other key characters in this first novel of a series, without stalling in the story telling. I'm looking forward to reading their stories.

The only thing I wasn't so taken with was the rhythm of the story. It seemed to build up slowly, gathering pace as the pages were turned but then stopped rather abruptly. While the story does not have a cliff hanging ending, it was perhaps a little too quickly tied up given the time taken by the author to tell the story.

Despite this, it was a great story that I would recommend reading if you like a mix of everything.

Calila | 2746 comments Week 10

Option 1 Theme:
4. Select a book for your team-mate from their TBR (You can create your own shelf for this theme, but only one shelf can be put forward for your team-mate to pick from.)

To be absolutely clear: your team-mate is selecting the book that you will read for week 10.

Rules for this week
For transparency - please post your preferred shelf for your team-mate to pick from.

You will still put up your selection post with the normal format - it's just that your team-mate selected that book. Please note in the selection post which team-mate selected that book for you.

Team-mates - post the book in the thread with your team-mate's name next to it. No particular format is required.

Given team-mate absences, one team-mate can pick for more than one other member (eg Calila can pick for both Shannon and Amy if the other members aren't around.)

If you missed the initial excitement - post your shelf and ask a team-mate to come and pick a book for you once you hit the thread.

Captains - could you please ensure that everyone's has a book selection? That is, no-one is waiting too long for someone else to pick :) Thanks!

Option 2 Key Date:
26 December 2014

Remember: Next week is the last theme!
Please ensure you follow the format shown in msg 3 of your team threads.

I can't pinpoint exactly what I didn't like about his book just that it didn't really hold my attention and I didn't care about the MCs. It might be because it was the first in the series and spent a lot of time building the plot for the rest of the books. We did meet all the Gods and learned 12 of them will have to meet their mates and get keys to release Zeus from captivity because the evil Aries and Hera have taken over Olympus. I might read the next one just to see if I enjoy it more.

Lynne (lovetoreadgal) | 1182 comments My friend had a truly epic spellcheck moment last week. He wrote an email to a client thanking them for a "generous" offer, but spellcheck corrected it to "heinous" and he didn't catch it before he emailed it to them! Lucky, everything was fine when he immediately called them to apologize, but I still just randomly get the giggles about the heinous offer!

Book Title: For the Love of a God by Rosanna Leo
Rating: ★★★★

Review:
This was a really fun read. Our heroine is a workaholic that is obsessed with the Greek God Eryx, to the point that she thinks the new director of the museum, where she works, is the God come to life. While she’s busy telling herself that can’t possibly be, little does she know it really is Eryx – the God of Love. I’ll let your imaginations take it from there….

The characters were nicely realized and while there was not a huge amount of character development, I think it suited the style of the book very well. Ms. Leo did a really nice job of introducing a cast of characters that no doubt will feature in future books in this series. This book could be read as a stand-alone and wraps up nicely for those that have series fatigue.

I did finally start the kindle unlimited and I can get a better option for books from there then sometimes the library. The book I chose last week started off very good and then just went south fast. I'll post my review later today. I had to actually struggle to finish it.

Review: I really enjoyed this more than I expected to. I wasn't sure what exactly I was getting into, but this book really tugs at your heart. SO MUCH. I just wanted to save Lee and get him away from the bad guys. Luckily Shaw was there to do (even against his better professional judgement). I do have to say though that I struggle with liking Shaw. He wasn't a bad guy, but he's not quite a good guy either. He's willing to roll in the mud to a certain line. I will say that the writing is so great, that you really get in the heads of the characters, for good and bad you understand where they're coming from. I was so happy to see Lee talking with a shrink. I kind of wish we'd get more of that, but I also think that could drag so I get it. The supporting cast that you're supposed to like was great. Loved Rez and Callie. Lee's family was pretty nice, you can at least understand them. All in all I really liked this, and would recommend.

The Closer You Come (The Original Heartbreakers, #1) by Gena Showalter by Gena Showalter

Completed May 26, 2015 1 stars

Okay, this book had great potential at the beginning, then it just went poof for me. I struggled to finish it and to keep up with the storyline through 400 plus pages. The main character Brook Lynn is trying to keep her head above water financially while taking care of her sister's troubled life and having a life of her own. Her sister is pretty wild and Brook Lynn has to go get her from a party where she meets bad boy Jace and his friends. Jace recently got released from prison for a crime that he did out of love for a friend. Anyway, one of the cool parts of the book that I thought would have more significance but didn't was the fact that Brook Lynn had a special hearing disorder causing her to have to wear hearing aids. I just thought that was a different spin on things. Ultimately, the book turned way too dominant subordinate and I lost sight of the spunky little Brook Lynn from the beginning of the book. I probably should give this author another try before I write her off but I just didn't think the story was developed well.

Review: Well, a little disappointing. Chelsey and Bash have known each other for years. All their friends are hooking up with each other. Chelsey has a list of the “perfect” man that Bash just doesn’t fit, but all the items on the list are superficial items. When challenged about that by her friends she tells them that of course those things are a given. Well, if she sees the difference between the important things and the superficial, why does she get so hung up on all these superficial reasons? Chelsey has been such a strong character through the other books in the series, it was disappointing to have her seem to be wishy-washy about this. Bash is a great character, but his actions at the end just seemed very out of character and it made the ending flat. Not my favorite in the series. But there was some good scene setting for the next books in the series. I’m sure I’ll keep reading.
