Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

I really like Richelle Mead's writing style. I know her books are technically classifed as Young Adult but they are not like the Young Adult books that were out when I was a young teenager. I love this whole magic realm that has become more popular over the past few years. This book kicked off a new series for me. I have read some of the Vampire Academy books so I was excited to start this series. This series shows us a glimpse of Alchemists which I think are cool. The book tells the story of Sydney, Adrian, and Jill. Sydney is told she needs to protect Jill. The story unfolds telling us that story with lots of fun twists and turns. Also, we get to see the story develop between Adrian and Sydney. It's a really good storyline and I look forward to reading more.

This book was just okay. It didn't really have any Wow moments for me. The book tells the love story of Lark and Mason. Mason left for a few years and came back a changed person and wanted to renew his relationship with Lark. Lark wasn't quite sure about him after the way he left. The book continues to tell their story. I just felt it was a plot that has been used many times before and just didn't have enough in the storyline to make it stand out from others.

Rating (1-5): ★★★½
Review: This is the second book in the Roaring Twenties series. Lowe Magnussen is the brother of the hero from the first book. He is returning from an archaeological dig in Egypt and smuggling a priceless artifact into the Country. Hadley Bacall is the daughter of the head curator of the museum where she works. Her father is desperate to get his hands on the artifact that Lowe is smuggling so he sends Hadley to buy it from him. I enjoyed this book but it didn’t have the connection between the characters that the first book in this series had. I also felt like the interactions between these new characters and the characters from the first book were stilted and contrived and didn’t carry any of the charm of their personalities forward. It moved the series forward, but certainly didn’t do much to set the stage for the next book in the series.

Never read anything by this author. She is very good at grabbing your attention and sucking you into the story. I really enjoyed her writing style. Ruby was a fantastic character and her sister Cora was interesting. Their is a depth to her writing that makes me wish she wrote adult books. Tough situations to write about but handled very well. Rubys mom abandons her 17. Ruby is sent to live with her older sister who for the past 10 years has tried to distance herself from her adolescent life.

Review: Well, after reading some of the reviews I have to say that I enjoyed this book a whole lot more than I thought I would. I didn't find either MC to be overly mean or obnoxious and while they did seem to walk around with hard-ons a lot, it wasn't too OTT. I loved how much Jamie loved Trevor and really always had. I was heartbroken when we learned about the "aversion therapy" used on Trevor so he didn't even realize he was gay. And I will admit I didn't know who dunnit until we were told. The sex was pretty great and the supporting characters were mostly good people. I was sad at the end with the part I'm not going to say but am hoping we'll see what happens later in the series. Very happy I read this one!

Review: I am pretty torn with this one. It's really a 2 star, but the quality of the writing is making me bump it up to 3. It was VERY well written. I spent most of the book on the verge of tears because I felt so much for Giordan. Which is were the problems come in. I felt so much for him, that I HATED the way people treated him. HE WAS HIT BY A CAR AND IN A COMA FOR FIVE YEARS and yet somehow everyone treats him like a villain who needs to prove he's "changed" or "worthy" of St. Shane's love. And really I dislike Shane. He searched for him for 5 years, found in in the hospital and suddenly wanted nothing to do with Giordan because he couldn't handle it. Well screw you too. I dislike everyone taking Shane's side and "protecting" him from Giordan under the guise of respecting Shane's wishes. UGH. Seriously. I really just wanted Giordan to say screw y'all and just leave them all behind. He deserved so much better. Only the fact that I loved Giordan so much and the writing was so good is saving the rating.

Review:
I loved the heroine of this novel. Angelica was feisty, strong willed, intelligent and kind. What a lovely young women. Brooklyn Ann did a wonderful job of mixing these great qualities with a naive innocence that a wealthy young lady of the times would have. I was less taken with our hero, Ian but I think this is my personal preference of what a hero, particularly a vampiric hero should be, rather than any failing on Brooklyn Ann’s part. It was hard for me to believe that Ian had the great depth of feeling his thoughts and action indicated. However, there were some great scenes between the two characters that displayed an intense passion that help make this story well worth reading. I haven’t even mentioned the other story thread that has been woven into this story. You’ll have to read it to find out more about that.

So Seti pissed of the god Setekh and got put in his tomb alive only to be awakened in 5000 yrs. Fast forward to the present in the basement of a museum where Logan opens the tomb. Tada, instant hot, king, ex-mummy man! Then they're chased by the bad guys, stolen by Setekh, rescued by Osiris...la, la, la...they live HEA. I was hoping for some funny anecdotes about a 5000 yr old king getting along in present day NYC and there was a little bit but I wanted more. Fun read though.

Review: This book is about Katy and Gage who have known each other for years and have secretly lusted after each other. The timing is right and they get together for one night before Gage leaves for six months working in the oil fields where he will be very out of touch. They agree to commit to each other and Gage takes off. However, Katy decides to give Gage one last kiss before he leaves so drives to his house, but she has a car accident on the way there. Gage returns after months away knowing nothing about the accident and Katy can’t remember that anything ever happened between them. It’s approached less as amnesia and more as head trauma with memory loss that probably won’t return. I really enjoyed this book. Previously books I’ve read by Vivian Arend have been more erotic but this was a lovely story.

Review: I always enjoy S.E. Jakes' books. I always know what I'm in for. I really liked Cole, liked Marcus a lot less. I just thought he was a jerk and his backstory wasn't enough for me to let it slide. Especially since he was cordial enough with his ex in the one scene we see him in. Cole was so messed up, but his angst was understandable. The "climax" felt a little too rushed to wrap up. I also didn't like the rush to move in together, Cole takes a great stand and says I need time to get my head straight from all that's happened. And THE NEXT DAY that's all thrown out the window. UGH. I did LOVE seeing Styx/Law/Paolo again. I really enjoy how interconnected all these books are.

Review: What if you woke up not remembering the last three years of your life and everything had changed? A good "fluff" book. The characters were shallow, predictable, and at times over-the-top absurd. But I still enjoyed it.

Someone to Watch Over Me by LIsa Kleypas
4 Stars 5-15-15
Okay, can I just say that I would like to be rescued by one of London's bachelors and taken to his house to recuperate from an accident. This book told of the story of Ms. Vivien who was left at the waterfront to drown and the story of Mr. Grant who was sent to rescue the drowning victim. Grant has been rejected by Vivien in the past and now thinks he has his shot with her except she now has amnesia. The storyline plays out with trying to find the attackers of Vivien. It also shows the progression of the relationship between Grant and Vivien. At times, Grant can be a bit ruff but I think that is to be expected from this time period. I am intrigued to read the other books in this series to see if they are like the Wallflower series.

A fast read with romance, bikers, illegal activities and an unusual twist to the story. Cliffhanger teaser at the end of the book to make you go purchase the next in series. As one reviewer summed it up good start...fast and the furious meets gone in 60 seconds. Enjoyable read.
