It's so bad! I've read like 10+ of her books and the ratings are all over the place. From 2 stars, to one 5 star.

The ratings are always hard, because I don't want to say a book was horrible because it's probably just me. so I just go with the goodreads definition "2 stars = it's okay"

That's right - it should have been read by Calila no more than 6 months ago. However if Calila has dated it as read within the 6 months, regardless of when she actually read it - then I will accept it. (Does that make sense? - if you couldn't have picked up that it was read earlier than 30 Jan 2015, then I would accept it.)

Bookcover/link: Mackenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard – 4/2
Rating (1-5): ★★★★
Review: Classic Linda Howard. This book was really good. Wolf MacKenzie is as classic alpha male as they come. Mary was a lovely surprise however. She began as a “spinster, virgin schoolteacher” but it didn’t take long for her to be a force. She didn’t put up with any crap and she did it in a polite, but don’t mess with me, attitude. I loved her mother-bear ways towards Joe, Wolf’s 16-year-old son. I’m a sucker for someone who goes all out to support their kids. Watching Joe & Mary’s relationship grow was as sweet as the one between his father and Mary. My only disappointment was the one-dimensional bigotry of the townspeople. Maybe that’s more an indication of the time it was written than anything else in the storyline. Fun read.

Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

2 stars April 1, 2015

I wanted to read the second book in the series to see if I liked it anymore than I did the first book. Also, because it was on the list that I could chose from. I have decided the whole teacher student relationship just isn't my thing. This book still carried on the storyline between Will and Layken but it was more from Will's point of view. There were a couple parts that made me laugh but I had trouble following the dialogue in the storyline. I'm not a huge poetry fan and poetry is thrown throughout the book also. Sighs, now I'm one of those that feels the need to complete a series even if it's not the best so I'm probably going to find book three at some point. I'm just surprised how strong of ratings this book does get.

I know! I think it's the longest book I've read in a couple years. I don't really like super long books. Glad I read it but could probably be cut down a couple hundred pages. lol

Gabriel's Inferno (Gabriel's Inferno, #1) by Sylvain Reynard

April 2/15 4.5★

Review
i really enjoyed this story. Just what i needed to read right now.The writing is amazing and smart and perfectly paced and both Julia and Gabriel are so damaged and yet so real that they jump off the page at you. Its impossible to do anything but love them for who they are, even when that's not always the best. Its just...incredible story telling. The descriptions, the way art and philosophy play in...couldn't be more perfect. It was romantic and sensual in ways beyond just the hot bed room scenes. Highly recommend this book to anyone.

Lynne (lovetoreadgal) | 1182 comments Week 3 – Completed:
Bookcover/link: [* book:The Bet|17560674] by Rachel Van Dyken
Rating (1-5): ★
Review: This may have been one of the worst books I’ve ever read. It felt like it was series of moments that the author thought would be funny and she slammed them all together. The storyline could have been really good, but it was so full of errors and ridiculous monologue that it was almost impossible to follow. The story was a series of retelling of unkind past events that these three had pulled on each other and so few real current moments that could provide an opportunity to connect or re-connect in any way that it was frustrating. The author rehashed details about previous mean jokes but never provided moments of real discussion of their current lives or feelings. Those were just referred to in “we talked for hours” references. Cut out a few of those past references and give the reader something to understand this new relationship. Not to mention just bad research mistakes. Several times the characters who grew up in Portland, Oregon and who live in Seattle talked about it being a long four-hour drive between the two cities. It’s 170 miles. It takes 3 hours with traffic (and there is always traffic), 2-1/2 if you drive fast and get lucky. Travis’ inner dialogue tells us that he owns a twenty acre horse ranch (I don’t know how 20-acres qualifies as a ranch), then his mother claims he owns one of the largest ranches in the west (what?!). And this is really getting picky I know, but multiple times they talked about throwing wine bottles into the trash. In the Pacific Northwest? You better be recycling those bottles! From smearing pie all over each other’s faces at a family dinner to a completely ridiculous grass-allergy scene to messed up timelines, this book was a total disaster of a read.

Calila | 2746 comments Week 3: Mr. Kiss and Tell

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: I really enjoyed this book. I continue to be surprised by just how much. I wasn't sure how I'd feel reading instead of watching, but it's so well written that it's easy to picture everyone in your head. I love that there was more Logan in this book. Though Veronica's hypocritical outrage/beliefs/thoughts idk, about danger continues to irk, and really they should be beyond that by now. Loved the mystery, interesting to see a certain sibling of a certain character again. I loved all the references only fans will really get. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about a particular development near the end concerning a former deputy we all know. It wasn't as bothersome as of yet, but it makes me wary for Book 3(is there going to be a book 3? I do hope so!).

P.S. I don't know why this is shelved as Love Triangle, there is 1 scene that kind of reference one, but it basically evaporates. It's nothing even close to really deserving of that shelf/tag.

Down to You by M. Leighton

Rating: ★★ 1/2

Review: Ok, so while I'm not really a fan of love triangles what I absolutely don't like is cliffhanger endings. Particularly when they are not needed! I could have quite happily finished the book at the second to last chapter and been relatively happy with the story. I believe I would have considered reading a follow up story about the couple in book 2, but I don't like being aggressively pushed that way.

I like the main characters and by the end had gotten over my feelings on a mother naming her sons "Nash" and "Cash". Who would do that?!!?! Did she not really like then all that much!?!!?

I did like the idea of our heroine being torn between identical twins, one 'good' and one 'bad'. This helped create some confusion in the love triangle that I don't think would have been possible if the two heroes looked completely different. There is a sneaky twist to this book that I like very much. A plot twist I've not read before and had the book heading to a four star review. But when the last chapter feels like the start of part 2 I had to rethink my rating.

If you can get past the cliffhanger ending, then it's a good story with an interesting twist.

I liked it when it played out. I'm not usually a fan of cliffhangers either so I had to keep reading to see how the twist turned out. I gave it a four only because I liked the twist so much!

The relationship wasn't as dynamic in this one as the other two in the series. It felt kind of like they were telling their life stories and worries to each other as strangers and ended up together. A little odd. Still enjoyable though. And even though Isaac was an ass, I'm kinda hoping for his story.

This is the type of book that you can not put down. You start to love the characters even if you don't want to. And by the end if the book if you are like me you will be yelling at the characters "Just get your heads out of your butts and be together you fools!" But unfortunately like many of us have come to realize no matter how much we yell at the characters, they will do what they were written for best. To make sure that we keep turning the pages and get to the end.
But with this book when you come to the last page you arent going to want it to end. Remember there are always two sides to every story. Yes these two characters are up and down like a celebrity couple you read about nowadays but Abby and Travis have a long journey and some self discovery along with kicking down some serious walls that they have built around themselves.

Everyone always talks about how great this series is. I can see where it would be awesome for some but for me it was good but not like omg amazing. Sookie is a spunky and crazy which makes for great stories. I love how she wants to meet vampires and get to know them. One of my favorite parts had to be in the beginning when she helped saved Bill a vampire from crazy people. Not sure if Bill would be the name I named a vampire though! The book was a fast read and I enjoyed reading about Sookie and the things that she just sorta fell into. I will need to read another book before I really decided if I like this series or not.
